Advice on Domain change scenario...

Hi, First option that comes to mind would be to perform a content migration through the attaching of content databases in a separate web application on the destination domain, and proceeding to restore database schema permissions to the content databases so that the farm can access the data properly, all user permissions need to be reassigned 1) Find the content Database, These are listed under Central Admin->Application...

Published (2009-12-04 05:59:00)
Hi Stefan, Glad to know the first issue is self-resolved by removing HTTP bindings on the IIS. For the sync issue, I tried many times and could not reproduce in my environment. I suspect the sync did not happen automatically on your side, could you please hit Send / Receive All button ( F9 for accelerator key) to force the sync process? If your issue continues to persists, could you please remove the SharePoint calendar from your...

There is nothing here that indicates that this is a 2010 question. In fact the URLs include "moss" Please confirm that it is a question about SP 2010. Because of the MOSS in the URL I'm moving this on to the normal SP admin forum.

Restore a list column
Published (2009-12-04 05:33:00)
Hi, You can recover the deleted columns by recovering the database either from a VSS copy or Backup. For how to restore database from backup, please refer to the following article: How to: Restore a Database Backup (SQL Server Management Studio) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177429.aspx Hope this helps. Microsoft (and the rest of the community) recommends not modifying the SharePoint DB's. Look for support of the FILESTREAM feature in up and coming releases of SharePoint.

Advice on Domain change scenario...
Published (2009-12-04 23:53:00)
I don't think you will be able to bring up and connect both domains with the same name. I would proceed very carefully. SharePoint has a tendency to track SIDs so it will not see the accounts as the same unless the SIDs match. If SIDs do change for the end users, you are going to want to migrate the user profiles using stsadm -o migrateuser -oldlogin <old> -newlogin <new> -ignoresidhistory Here is a good...

Published (2009-12-03 10:20:00)
According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263260.aspx , you can enable a basic incoming e-mail scenario by installing the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service on the server running Office SharePoint Server 2007 and enabling incoming e-mail by using the automatic settings mode with all default settings. In this scenario, e-mail is delivered directly to your SMTP server and Office SharePoint Server 2007 periodically...

Hi, Please check the Draft Item Security in document library versioning setting. If you’ve enabled “Only users who can edit items” for “Who should see the draft items in this document library”, users without edit item permission cannot see the updated version of the document until the major version has been published. Let me know if I misunderstand you.

First thing u should be checking would be if the WFE is actually down. What procedure are you following for deployment ? You can try by manually deploying the solution files on the failed server. First copy the DLLs to the machine's GAC and install using stsadm command line "installfeature". Make sure to copy the web.config settings

User ID in SharePoint
Published (2009-12-04 19:26:00)
Mike: I managed to get the User Information List sync'd. After changing the permissions on the Windows\Tasks folder, then changing the credentials for the Default Access Account used to import user profiles, I noticed that I was continuing to get that error in the event viewer, but the Timer Job status was giving me a successful synchronization. That led me to check all the services that were running, and I changed the Credentials on the...

Cascading dropdown menus are not available out-of-the-box. You would either have to create a custom solution or look at third party vendors' products. You could also look on Codeplex.com and see if someone has created a free solution. But be advised, the solutions on codeplex are to be used at your own risk.

Hi fragility,
1. What’s the version of your MOSS?
2. After you remove the server from the farm, what configuration did you do on the server?
3. When you ran the configuration wizard, did it complete successfully? Which account did you use to run the wizard?
4. Did you install any antivirus software on the server?

You could try and reduce the timer service execution time
stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url http: http://www.myurl.com -pn job-immediate-alerts -pv "every 5 minutes"

There is nothing here that indicates that it is a 2010 question and the URLs both contain MOSS.
Moving to the standard SP - Admin forum (for pre-2010 products) with the strange feeling that I have seen those URLs before in another message that was moved by me away from 2010 forum for the same reason.

You probably have some limitations on that list field allowing you pick users from certain securitu Group. Try adding this new user to site containing the list by adding the user to site group or give to this user explicit permissions.

It's possible to rename the server after installing MOSS 2007 (and then do various things) but it's much simpler to rename the server before installing MOSS 2007 and if all you have done so far is install MOSS 2007 and have added no content, I would uninstall it and rename the server and then re-install it.

Hi Stefan,
I Deployed Outlook Anywhere in my local environment, but cannot reproduce your issue.
But I do know a by design behavior that Outlook will use zones to sync a SharePoint list in this order: Intranet > Default > Extranet > Internet > Custom may cause the authentication issue.
Imagine a scenario:

On the share point portal if a user tries to download a document using Internet Explorer, they are prompted for their password (sometimes several times) before they are allowed to do so – even though they are already authenticated to the Share-point site.

Is this going to be a production system or is this just a test? You really should use a domain accounts to run all services, and it is a best practice to do the install with a different admin level account. You can reset the accounts if needed via STSADM, but honestly it may just be best to start over and get the right accounts in place or you will be fighting other problems in the future.
