No. Ask in Programming. Of course the tree view additon to (or instead of ) Quick Launch shows only sub-sites the user has permissions for. But I presume you have excluded that option.

You may get password prompt if your IE configuration - User Authenitcation settings- is set to prompt for user name password. Remove the above user authentication settings and set it to 'Automatically logon using current user name password' option. Also try adding the site/ document library path to the trusted sites at IE -Tools -Internet Options -Security. Do you have any policies defined for the document library ? Does your...

There are a lot of things you could do. For ideas I would suggest looking at the capabilities displayed in the Fab 40 templates. In particular there is one for tracking multiple projects. For task assignment, if you want things to happen automatically you will be looking at doing some custom workflow work. I think you have a lot of reading and discovery work to do.

Hi Lou, Do you have all the latest service packs and cumulative updates installed for MOSS on both servers? George, I think the use of project server depends on your funding, Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA), the amount of users who will use the system, and how many PM's you'll have. Project Server can be a expensive solution to roll out to a small business or large enterprise. How your organization uses the product will drive the cost of implementing and maintaining it. I am a fan of P12 (Project Server 2007) but like I...

Hi Sowmya, Would you please make a comparison between the erroneous library and others which work well, such as customization if there is any, the number of items, versioning setting and other document library settings? Since versioning was disabled automatically, I think you can also try to enable versioning again and wait for the result. Let me know the result if possible. Thanks. Best Regards.

SharePoint list cannot be a logical replacement for relational database tables. SharePoint list is meant for different purpose. If you are developing transactional applications, i'd recommend you to go for relational db tables. Beause you'll get transaction support, indexing, faster querying of data etc. I'm not saying that sharepoint list cannot do this. You can still achieve things like ...

It was possible to install WSS 3.0 on Vista using a workaround from Bamboo Solutions so probably Windows 7 is possible too. It's much better however to add a Virtual Machine system (such as the free Virtual PC) and install Windows Server 2003 in a virtual machine and WSS 3.0 on top of that. If doing that you should choose the Basic installation of WSS 3.0 which will install it's own version ...

Hi Satheesh, Mike Walsh gives the basic answer in his comments above. The best answer to this would be to use a third-party application to import the IIS log files. Assuming you have not archived these, you would be able to import all of these and run a report on unique user activity. Here's just one that should work for you: http://www.iis.net/downloads/default.aspx?tabid=34 &i=1907&g=6 ...

Hello everyone, I am using SharePiont Server 2007 Enterprise with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. I have the following requirements about task management and want to know whether SharePoint Server 2007 can implement such feature. And if cannot, what kinds of Microsoft or non-Microsoft product could achieve such goals (and could integrate with SharePoint Server 2007). I prefer Microsoft product ...

Files can be uploaded to SharePoint using web services. So you can upload files from any technology that can make web service calls. For example:
You could write a managed code stored procedure (C#, VB.net, etc) to to this,
you use SSIS and some scripting to do it
you could add a record to a table with the file info and have a .Net app running as a scheduled job monitor that table...

Have you tried creating a web part connection? I don't have that template in front of me, but it sounds as if that may be the solution. To create a web part connection, when the page is in edit mode, click the drop-down at the top-right of web part, and choose connections. Create a new connection for the case number field to be sent to from the cases web part to the emails web part. If this...

Hi, I've set up a page with 2 CEWPs on it. I want a group of users to modify these web parts but not add extra web parts to the page. Is there a custom permission that can restrict access to the web part gallery without denying access when modifying web parts already on the page? Thanks in advance, any help/advice would be much appriciated, Tony

Can you hover over that item, then in the drop down menu click send to - desktop, save a copy on your desktop and then upload it to the other location?
You'll need the correct rights of course to move the item into and from the folder (document library)

One of the possible reasons for the issue is the integrated windows authentication, which confused the Office suit to open the sharepoint document iwth the correct permissions and hence allows only to open the file in read only mode. Please do the following steps to resolve the issue : 1. Open IE - Tools - internet options - Advanced Tab - Uncheck the 'Enable the integrated ...

If I remember correctly you can export the PPT as a slideshow. The other option is to change the default actions for the file extension, but that would need to be done on each user's PC and would probably not be a good idea.

You can't. While Microsoft have provided an API so that other database makers could provide code so that other database systems than SQL Server could be used for storing SharePoint data, none of the database manufacturers including Oracle have written such code. So you still can only use the appropriate versions of SQL Server for the particular SharePoint product range.
