No. 2007 will work and quite well for most users. You will need SharePoint Designer 2010 for SP 2010, and SharePoint Workspace instead of Grove 2007. - And InfoPath 2010 for modifying list forms + new IP/SP 2010 features - And Word 2010 for Co-Authoring

Thanks for the responses. Would it be safe to say then, that if both products are essentially the same except for licensing, that SPS 2010 Enterprise Edition would be just fine as a platform getting to know SharePoint with the goal of eventual certification?

I really like the simplicity of the Site Actions -> New Page that opens the CreatePublishingPageDialog.aspx page on publishing sites. This has only a name for the page which makes it very simple on the user. The problem is that it does not allow the user to specify the Page Layout as is possible on the old CreatePage.aspx page. The problem is that I have added a custom content type to the page library but when one...

If you run searches such as ".webpart file type," you'll find the information you're looking for (e.g., http://filext.com/file-extension/WEBPART ). If you only want official documentation, restrict your searches to MSDN and TechNet.

Mike - I’m not sure I understand your response. I think that installing SharePoint on Windows 7 is an important feature that most of the SharePoint community is excited about... I wonder if you could elaborate?

Both products you mention are identical except for the licensing.
So you can use either.

You can't install SPF 2010 on a server that is already running SP 2010 *unless you install it in a VM*.
Yep and that's my problem. I don't want to install it again. I just want to get to "EULA step" where I can find out if I can use SP 2010 Foundation in my shared hosting environment to allow my clients check it out before RTM but I can't because there is already SP 2010 installed and I ...

Yes, it allows for co-authoring. When you're both in the spreadsheet in the browser, it notifies you in the bottom right corner that other users are viewing. When you make a change, the other users see it after it updates (very quickly). This is also available in Word and OneNote.

If you already have SharePoint, it could be cheaper for you to rent a dedicated, hosted server than to pay for a license for something else. But if that's not possible and cost is your main consideration, take a look at vBulletin ( http://www.vbulletin.org ). It's PHP, but I'm not aware of a .NET product that's as affordable.
