DELL 4 MP and R2 & CMC's
Published (2009-12-17 18:25:00)
Hi John. As far as I know the CMC's are SNMP based. So my guess is that these CMC's must first be present in OpsMgr as SNMP devices. Haven't the documentation of the Dell MPs nearby, so I can not check on it.

Turned out to be a DB sizing issue. I did not have autogrowth on, so I had to increase the size and do some DB maintenance. Once I did that, I was able to manage the alerts again.

i'm not at work anymore, so i cant give an example. But if you look at the dns mp, they use this concept as well.

Hi You'll need to create a service level objective first (see page 5 of the SLD documentation). So after you have created your distributed application: To define an SLO for an application or group 1. In the Operations console, from the Authoring view, click Management Pack Objects and then, in the Authoring navigation tree, click Service Level Tracking. 2. In the Actions pane, click Create. 3. In the Name box, type the name of the...

Script Failed HYper-V MP
Published (2009-12-10 06:35:00)
Hi Had some time to digg into this and found out the following:' It only occurs on a hyper-v cluster node that does not have any VM:s, noticed that fact since we decided to have a free node in the cluster. If you migrate 1 VM to the free cluster node, the script get pushed out , if you move the VM away again the Temporary folder ex: \Monitoring Host Temporary Files 10\4890 gets deleted, but the fact that it trys to run the script...

Yes, it's set to true... In the meanwhile I have also set the 'generate alert' to 'true' from the Win OS - Performance, and this one generates an alert. But I also expect an alert from the CPU monitor, and this still doesn't generate one. I just change the monitor 'Memory available' and also this one is generating an alert. Aaarg so what have I do wrong with the CPU monitor?

Hi rob1974, Microsoft.Exchange.Server.2007.Library.[...] exists, in the correct version. I've executed a script to test permissions of system account on this reg key, there's no restrictions... :/ And principalname attribute has the good value on this object.

Subgroups in Sealed Management Pack
Published (2009-12-15 15:26:00)
I've looked at the DNS MP for an example. Great reference - that helped me to move forward. What I found is that I can add in 6 groups using the Query Builder on the Dynamic Members tab using something similar to: ( ( Object is Test A Group AND True ) OR ( Object is Test B Group AND True ) OR ( Object is Test C Group AND True ) OR ( Object is Test D Group AND True ) OR ( Object is Test E Group AND True ) OR ( Object is Test F Group...

There is some information on grooming settings here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb381315.aspx However I don't think the SQL jobs data in the DW is easily found by a user (unless you have some custom reports that expose it) so I don't think the impact of having it there is huge.

Hi, I try to use local system as action account on domain controllers, that normally works fine, as it is the dc computer account then running all testa. I dont create that container either, it is automatically created.

Hi, Take a look at building a new dependency rollup and a dependency rollup monitor with "worst case" algorith, and make sure the monitors below dont generate any alerts. Instead you let the aggregate rollup monitor do the alerting. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb42279 2.aspx

Hi Filip. It looks sharp and modern. Since the site isn't fully functional yet (it is still in transition) it is hard to tell how it functions. But the looks are very promissing. In order to give it more exposure I have blogged about it: http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.com/2009/12/mp-ca talog-new-vs-old.html

Tayyaba, Thanks for the response. After a while, the resources did start to go undiscovered. I am seeing different behavior in my Pre-Prod than from my Production environment. In Pre-Prod, most all the cluster resources went away with the exception of cluster "x" which is multi homed. oddly enough, in production Cluster "x" went undiscovered. Out of 4226 discovered cluster resources, only...

Hi Alex. Try to find the monitor/rule raising this Alert and modify it with an override in order to make it less sensitive for a particular server or group of servers. I have found that some rules/monitors in the DNS MP are too sensitive for most environments.

I did find that I had two versions of the Exchange Managment packs. I uninstalled both and just reinstalled the one for R2. I will try again with the reports today and see how I do.

Hi, stupid question perhaps, but does the Agent have all the needed permissions on that server? Many times it is a permission issue. Also check the OpsMgr eventlog on that server in order to see any workflow went wrong. Mostly also the reason WHY is stated. Hope this helps.

Hi Alex. You could build a monitor alerting when a certain event gets created. So first you want to know what event to look for. When you know that, the monitor can be build.

When you import a group, the group gets an ID. This ID is used for nesting of group (in the xml it will look something like <contain>11222-12323-232321-asdas</contain> and this is nowhere specified in this mp itself). So when u delete an mp with nested groups and then import them again, the groups get a new ID and the nesting fails as the mp contains different ID's You could however add the ...

Hi. Personally I think that tampering the databases used by SCOM in any kind way will set your SCOM environment into the realm of Unsupported Configurations. So I wouldn't change anything there. By default, the data displayed in the Console (not the Reporting Pane that is) stays by default for 7 days in the Operational database. Then it gets groomed out. The data in Data Warehouse stays for ...

Hi Ralph. Before the SQL MP works, the Server OS MP needs to be in place as well. So this already tells the story: the SQL MP is targeted at SQL servers, not clients.

Hi Do you see any Service Level Templates? If not, go to site actions, edit page and see if that shows them all? If not, within the edit page, you can see at the top "Add a Web Part", click this and add in the Web Part "Admin Filter" to add in the Dashboard configuration web part. Or is the problem that you can see other Service Level Templates and just one is missing? Cheers ...

Is their a way where i can monitor the performance of individual CPU. when i create a rule of %Processor time total it is showing the 100% CPU i.e. report of all 8 CPUs. please let me know if i am not clear. -...
