What Kenny is comparing using the "apples to oranges" phrase is not Microsoft to Symantec, rather he is comparing the size of XP image to the size of the Win7 image. Transfering 3GB across a network, especially a slow 100MB network, takes time no matter what deployment tool you are using. Win7 images are just bigger because Win7 is bigger, there is no getting around this one and you must set your expectations based on this...

I'm actually trying to create a "ZTI Boot Image" as documented in the "Using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit.docx" and I"m getting the error: "Unable to mount image" for winpe.wim and PE20_mount.x86 (looking in the TEMP folder).. As Niall states I guess I'm missing some prerequisite MDT 2010 steps.. I don't remember having to do anything with MDT 2008 to get a...

SOLUTION FOUND. In copying the WIM file from VM to host to USB drive to server soemthing got corrupt. Re-copied the file and refreshed the DP and now deploying without the error. This is not an MDT 2010 or ImageX issue rather just a faulty WIM file.

Sccm only knows about the uuid if you enter it, right? How about just not entering it, and just input the mac address?

Thanks! Is this true if you have your PXE Point on the same server as the regular DP? I have always gotten away with just putting it on the PXE DP somehow and done in place upgrades through the client.

I am down to one hour now. I still need this to get faster. We are currently using Symantec's Livestate and I need something comparable to that. The Livestate pushes out an image in 30 minutes with XP, Office, and many other programs as well. I welcome more suggestions, tips, etc. Thanks again everyone!

If you are using ConfigMgr 2007 SP1 (WinPE 2.0 images) you can use intlcfg.exe to set the keyboard layout in WinPE. If you are using ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 (WinPE 3.0 images) intlcfg.exe is deprecated and you have to use Dism.exe to set the keyboard layout in WinPE.

It sounds like the driver it is hanging up on isn't being applied through the driver package, but rather is part of the captured image, is that right? If so, then you need to adjust your sysprep.inf: From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302577 When unsigned drivers are unavoidable, use the UpdateInstalledDrivers=yes parameter in conjunction with OemPnPDriversPath= and DriverSigningPolicy=...

Sysprepping Vista is not done the same way as with Windows XP, to prompt for the ComputerName you can simply leave that section blank in the unattend.xml file (use windows SIM to edit/create this file), once done, you can use this unattend.xml file as a package within SCCM and apply it in the Apply Operating System Image section of the Task Sequence cheers niall

What service did you try? I know when my SCCM cache got all messed up I was stuck on restarting the wrong service to clear it. Try restarted the wdsserver and ccmexec service. The steps I would do is, remove the old computer accounts, restart the services, import the computer accounts with just MAC addresses and try it again.
Hope this is helpful!

After upgrading to SCCM SP2 I used the following URL to replace the base boot WIMs with new WIMs with support for HTA,MDAC,PPPOE,VBS,WMI, etc. I need to run HTA front-ends and the CMD file in the following URL worked perfectly. http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/network- administrator/windows-preinstallation-environment- windows-pe-30-based-on-windows-7/ Just thought I would share some...

You're advertising to a collection of user names? I'm pretty sure task sequences are a machine based item and can only be advertised (properly) to machines.

I was able to resolve installing MDT 2010 by simply installing MDT 2010 (it seems to supercede MDT 2008), and by running the step to "Configure ConfigMGR Integration". On to resolving issues with the Boot images.

Definatly capture at least office in an image and deploy using that. My current Task Sequence including USMT with 40 Gig on a users desktop took about 40 minutes the other day. Wrapping as much as you can into an image will really increase the speed of your deployment. I also find that the driver installations work better when you use an image. Matt

I have tried other suggestions but still have had no luck.
Does anyone know what the "Ignoring req" could be caused by?
Thanks,

ok I have just read that to create boot images in sccm sp2 is different and you need to use dism not imagex,so guess this could be why ?

I had the same issue with some HP Laptops. I could fix it with a different version of the driver. See also: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupp ort/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+125779502188 2+28353475&threadId=1193330

when you make the build and capture task sequence and you have it working nicely, you can split the build and capture parts of the task sequence so it becomes two task sequences... part 1=build part 2=capture then do a build, customise it to your hearts content and advertise the capture part of the ts to it cheers niall
