Getting this message on two differents windows 7 computers in WMC: Error retrieving status data Status is not available for your home server. Check the status of your home server in the Windows Home Server console for more information. Any ideas? The console view had worked when I had tried the PP3 beta. I have since reinstalled the server completely and installed PP3 and get the error. The only information I can find on this is this thread...

Hi Andreas, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Home Server on the client you find a few "Unique" IDs (like a GUID in Transport or a Unique_Install_ID). I don't know which ID is for what, but I can imagine, that it is not possible to adjust them manually to something matching a counterpart on WHS. I would recommend, trying to remove the entire key, delete the master machine from the WHS console (only if...

OK, I was confused because you mentioned WHS console. I guess you are using IE7 or IE8 to open the server remote access webpage? If not please try using either of these before proceeding If PP3 update doesn't fix (you should know by now) you can try: PLEASE NOTE: The procedure outlined below is unsupported, and if you make any errors you can mess up your serveer 1. disable remote access (whs console, settings) 2. Besides the fact, that this experiment scraps on the limits of the EULA (the installation of different OS will be seen as two different computers by WHS, but since it is running on the same computer hardware it is strictly seen still one computer), you made an interesting point. At any time an upgrade for Windows Home Server could change some structures - be it in the backup database or in the registry, which makes it impossible to find the...

The profile path doesn't match the same name on the WHS, I have noticed that sometimes you think you have the same username, however comparing to your profile name under c:\users, it is indeed different.  Recreating on the Win7 box or on WHS as Olaf suggested would work just the same to fix the issue.

Suggest doing a "chkdsk /r /f" on all your drives. If the connector software is damaged, you may need to do a "server reinstall" (which will not delete your data, just restore the OS)

Alright I went too western digital's site and downloaded the Acronis WD copy tool  http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp  It cloned my drive to a 1 TB drive I had . And has booted just fine. According to the how too I'm running CHKDSK /f/r on the new drive as the copy process will also copy the marked bad blocks , this will notice them as healthy and mark them as good. Will find out tonight if the backup to the WHS...

Hi, you should check the event log of the server and the windowsupdate.log file in c:\windows for more details. I am not sure, that using a script for uninstall will clean up all stuff successfully, but I never had PP3 prerelease versions on my production systems as update due to localization availibility. Eventuall reinstall the prerelease version and uninstall it via Control Panel. Which ...

The title of this post really says it all--every time I check for updates in the WHS console, PP3 installs.  This has happened at least six times and reboots do not help.  The "resources" tab of the console indicates that PP3 is installed; I am just wondering why it still keeps installing over itself again and again. You might try logging into the server desktop and uninstalling PP3, ...

Hello, after more than one year of correct working of the (wanderful) backup feature of my WHS server, now I'm facing a singular problem: the backup server process is running correctly (a manual backup from a client PC is done correctly), but the WHS console thinks that it is not there and so I'm not able to see the backup state and make a configuration. I'm sure that the backups DB it's ok: ...

Hi, WHS with PP3 will index your folders automatically if there is at least one file in it. you do not need to chnage any settings. Concerning the "PC image backups": I think this is a mis understanding. You do not need to backup you client to WHS using any tools on the client. With WHS when you install the Windows Home Server Client Connector your PC will be automatically backed-up when you ...

Hello, Maybe a more generic version of the same question... Is there a way to keep backups of the users folders on WHS over time? Hi, WHS does not offer ways to make historical backups of the data in your WHS folders. Also note that even though WHS makes historical backups of the client PC's the purpose of these backups is mostly to enable you to restore the client in case of failure. ...

This is the Windows Home Server forum. For questions about Windows 7, you should try the appropriate Microsoft forum . That said, all versions of Windows include the Remote Desktop client. they differ in whether you may connect to them, not in whether you can connect from them.

Hi, In the event log, what is the exact event description under the "General" tab? Appears to me like some network acces ussue. Just some thoughts... * You can "ping"the server, *both* by name and IP-Adress? * From the WHS Console, under "setting",  you do have "Windows Media Center" enabled? * When logging in on you Windows 7 desktop; you are not by any chance logged using username "...

So I have 9 computers backing up on to WHS and am starting to convert some of the PC's over to Windows 7.  The problem is the 10 limit on WHS.  I still only have the same 9 PC's but the Windows 7 install is another machine.      So how are all of you going to keep your old backups? I mean the whole idea of the the WHS is to be able to keep backups and I do not like the idea of loosing all...

Hello, allow me a few questions: Which OS did you try to restore? Windows XP or Vista or 7? If so, that partition had not been backed up and you run into issues with missing files, because the boot pointer shows the wrong partition. The FAQ How to solve boot problems after ...

Hi, assuming no typo, I cannot find references to this file either, not on my home server, not via Google. So it is either a very specific file to your machine (OEM or driver - you could search your C: drive in the server for it and check its location and properties, if you find it) or from some 3rd party stuff you installed (eventually also malware is a possibility). Best greetings from Germany...

"The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block." is that log entry you could not find, I would say. Bad blocks may cause volume shadow copies to fail, and so the backup will also fail. All drives, which are earlier in the sequence, will be backed up successfully, the faulty drive not. I would recommend to delete the volume, which contains the faulty block (if necessary backup the data ...
