I'm not sure you bothered to go to the link I gave you - twice. If you had, you would have seen that following the instructions there would produce exactly the effect you are looking for. You would not have to click on any user icon; it would just go to the Desktop. Try it.

To disable Internet Explorer 8's pop-up blocker:  click on the Tools menu, located at the far right hand side of your browser's Tab Bar. When the drop-down menu appears, select the Pop-up Blocker option. A sub-menu will now appear. Click on the option labeled Turn Off Pop-up Blocker . You say you cannot "use all of the display features". What does this mean? To change your screen resolution to something higher, Control Panel>Display>Settings and use the slider to set the resolution to the correct one. Are you saying you don't have this tab? This could be a hardware issue or a software issue and there is no way to tell which it is from the little information you've given us. Did the Dell diagnostics show anything? What is the recent history of this machine? Do you know if it is virus/malware-free?

To turn on filenames, hold down the Shift key when you switch into thumbnail view. This will turn on the file names. Doing it again turns them back Off. Change to some other view (list) and close the folder. Re-open the folder, click View, hold the Shift key and select Thumbnail view.

Access Display Settings (from Control Panel or right-clicking the desktop) and look for an option to rotate the screen. 3.
