If Restore does not work and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a Bootable Repair Disk to do a Startup Repair: Download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Repair Disk from it. Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive. At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen...

Hi, maybeyou check with your System maker's support as you need to be able to change the boot order to DVD so you can use a boot disk to run the commands in the methods above. Presently your harddrive is probably 1st and DVD 2nd and you need to set it to DVD 1st. After you have any of the fix's then you need to set it back to hard drive 1st so you can check if the fix worked. The fix for Windows 7 and Vista for this issue would be...

For Michael Murphy, not the OP: Now that you've extensively edited the post, it does cover the topic - but the original post did not. The .exe links (and more than half the post) was added after the fact. If not for my post, he never would have received that additional information (which I admit may resolve the problem - especially the last link). I've edited my own post to remove the incorrect advice reference since that is...

It still sounds like hardware failure to me. Of course, I can't tell for sure without being hands-on with the machine. However, a good troubleshooting step is to boot with a Linux Live CD. I like Knoppix, but there are others. This has two advantages: 1) if the system will run, you can back up any data that missed your last backup; and 2) running the machine with Linux helps to determine if the problems are caused by software or...

I've just formatted my HD and reinstalled a brand new Vista Premium (32bit) on my computer. Everything was working fine, up until I decided to restart my computer without the Vista DVD - it gave me the error msg - BOOTMGR MISSING... Tried restarting - didn't help. I've put back the vista DVD and ran Repair mode first - didn't find any problems. Then ran Command Prompt with "bootrec /fixboot"...

Hi lostnwindows,
Welcome to Microsoft Windows Vista Community site. As the issue you have posted is related to hardware which has its own way to program codes and call corresponding system resources when running. Therefore, I would suggest contacting Toshiba Support or you can reach out to their forums to avail the best support.

Hi, Be sure the malware is really gone and clean up which might fix the issue. These can be done in Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot however you should also run them in regular Windows when you can. Download malwarebytes and scan with it, run MRT, and add Prevx to be sure it is gone. (If Rootkits run UnHackMe) Download - SAVE - go to where you put it - Right Click on it - RUN AS ...

The best thing to do is to fix the DVD Drive, and then follow Dell's instructions to do a Recovery to Factory Settings.

Hi, Try Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot. The Admin Account there has no password by default so unless someone changed it you should have access there. Then Control Panel - User Accounts - Manage another account - use this lower your account to user (to lowest level) APPLY/OK then go back and reset it to Admin APPLY/OK - this helps clear corruption. Do this a few times. Then fix the ...

You will not get an Option to install 32bit if you run Recovery.. Vista 32bit and 64bit does not come on the same DVD. They are 2 different Vista Operating Systems, not different Vista versions If 64bit came preinnstalled on your Computer, you will have to buy a 32bit Vista Llicence, and do a clean install to change it. We can only tell you if that software has been reported to work on a ...

You have been given incorrect advice by the other poster Michael Murphy. . exe is NOT listed in file associations in Windows Vista . They must be controlled some other way - probably through various system files but not through the normal file association process.

Hi, Can you access Safe Mode? Repeatedly tap F8 as you boot? If so you can try Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - Double Click on - Driver tab - click UPDATE driver - then Right Click on Device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT. Try booting into safe mode (repeatedly hitting F8 during the boot process) and go to safe mode with networking. Try creating a restore point from there. Also, if you have a Norton product installed, deactivate it entirely as it can disrupt the system restore process. If neither of these solutions solve the problem, try to boot into safe mode (repeatedly click the F8 key while booting and go ...

Hi Jonathan H,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers.
You probably have to update BIOS (Basic Input/output System) with the latest firmware available from the manufacture’s website. Also enable TPM (Trusted Platform Module) in BIOS manually.
NOTE : Modifying BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from ...
