Steve, No, we do not get email about deleted posts. I haven't had that many deleted, but for the few that were, I really wondered who did it and why. And, of course it irritated me. I think it would be best if the forum software automatically posted, in place of the deleted post, a message stating who's post was deleted, who deleted it and why. But that issue I will take up in Suggestions and Feedback for the Forums ....

Hi MSE forum .Here's another one for you to delete. As you can see my members trusted me and even though I warned them :this is what your program caused. My members are more thoughtful than they are here and will not hold this against me ,but I really fell bad I was the reason they tried your program. Go ahead and delete this big timer. We sure don't want anyone here finding out the truth.---garybear ...

It is perfectly safe to have Windows Installer set to Manual, this is the default system setting for this service. The MSE installer like any .MSI package uses the technology for Windows Installer to utilize it whenever needed. For an overview of the Windows Installer Service: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310598 For a more detailed description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Installer All the best~!

You can continue to use One Care for the duration of your subscription, then uninstall One Care and install MSE. Keep in mind MSE provides malware protection only and does not have the feature set that One Care has. See this post on One Care End Of Life guidance - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/0000c782-ed1b-4ed3-8afb-87989bb9638c

The two are not the same. Defender is purely anti-spyware. MSE includes this functionality and also includes full antivirus protection. If you have other anti-virus software installed there is no compelling reason to switch to MSE. If you don't have other antivirus software installed, get MSE installed pronto! Installing MSE will uninstall or disable Defender, depending on which OS you are running. Typically MSE + Windows...

Do you mean do you only need MSE+AVG? OR just MSE? MSE is all you need since AVG is the same product. Running them at the same time can create serious edit conflicts.

Ooooooh. ;o) That's it, my real email address is NOT the Live ID one. I had forgotten all about that thing; in fact I don't even know how to access it! I'm a pretty rudimentary computer user. THANK YOU, all you guys who have been answering my questions! The 2nd part of my last question got lost in the shuffle, so let me re-ask it: After having already deleted my One Care (subscription terminated 12/2/09),...

Hi Darkman69, What error do you get when turning on realtime protection in MSE? Is the "Microsoft Antimalware" service started/running?

the windows 7 and also vista also has outbound firewall that is very good. Why do you think you get a popup when you install a game and it needs to go to the internet. It asks you if you want to allow it.

why? the one built into windows is very good in windows 7. Vista wasnt bad either. You can get very detailed with the advanced configuration settings. There is no reason to use any other firewall. And to answer you question... no MSE does not have a firewall... it uses the one in windows.

Did you uninstall avg using their uninstall tool? Also, all prior antimalware must be uninstalled prior to installing Security Essentials. Once this is done, if your machine still performs poorly, you may have an infection of some sort. Garybear333, I changed your subject line from the "Attn Steve" text. I disagree with the fact that the forum is rude, though the software for the forum leaves a bit to be desired. When a moderator deletes a post or thread, a reason needs to be entered and that reason and the notification is supposed to be sent back to the author. I don't know if that works - I know it didn't in the previous ...

There are two ways that we can remove MSE. The first was alluded to before in one of the threads and the other one is running a cleanup tool and they vary in difficulty. First: 1. Download the OneCare cleanup tool: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=81699 2. After the tool runs if it prompts for a reboot please do so. 3. ...

Clean install would be the way to go. Often, after removing other security that was installed when MSE was installed, the removal tools will make system changes that will further break MSE. That doesn't always happen, but it happens enough that an uninstall/reinstall is the best way to go. -steve

Hello :) I'm new to this forum. I plan to uninstall AVG free and install MSE. I have downloaded the removal tool to clean AVG off my PC completely, and I have also downloaded the set up file for MSE. However I feel nervous having my computer hooked up to the internet while I have no AV protection, even when it is just for a short time. My question is can I run the set up file and ...

It freezes and sometimes blue screens. The bluescreen references the Video adapter. I got newer video drivers from NVidia that are WQHL from NVidia. I do not believe that is the problem though. I checked my laptop which was also working prior to install of MSE and it freezes as well. Different video driver on the laptop of course. I have tried excluding the game directories from Real Time ...

MSE Icon does not show up on the System tray. I noticed this after a few viruses where discovered by MSE recently. I can see the messeces.exe running in the Taskmanager. Like to know if this is a issue? 1 person needs an answer I do too
