Interesting day today and my port hit new yearly highs, as did the compx.? I'm trying to pick up some PUT options but I can't get them at the price I'm inclined to pay.? There is always tomorrow.? ?

I don't have the Financial backing to take on things Like KTII or a bunch of EMerg. Market stuff and I can't afford to even think of not seeking Dividends. DI ... do not try to keep up with the "rich and famous".? We just have to stick with our own potential.? Just because I was a part of a featured article in Forbes Magazine?on computerized investing back on July 30,1984 (pages 126 to 131) does not make me any better at...

Great competition DI. I do tend to agree with yclept on everything. We've got similar sized portfolios and I also keep around 15 positions, but most of the weighting is in the top few. I'm usually willing to pay 1% each way on a commission on my smallest positions ($1000 in BAC or $500 at Zecco.) I will create a "basket" of stocks which I consider to make up one position. I'll have a basket of net-nets at $500 - $1000...

If we are talking about the Portfolio that this thread is dedicated to - I have a simple answer to why it looks scattergun. well actually 2. First, Someof these I just kind of got bogged down in and secondly - every time I take a Large Position - no matter how careful I am with ?the research - I end up getting Shafted - Some Idiot Analyst screams "it is going to die", which Every Nutter reporter world wide Screams even louder and...

DI, In my opinion you have far too many positions for the stated?size of your portfolio.?Broker commissions will eat gains alive when one tries to trade or even hold?many small positions.? As a rule of thumb, I use 2/10th percent as the maximum one-way?amount of commission on a trade that I'm willing to accept.? Scottrade charges $7, so that puts my minimum position size at $3500 (7/.002).? Generally I use $6000 as a normal position,...

Yclept: Guess where I am spending the night tonight: Spotsylvania. Completely unplanned we stopped to spend the night in a motel on the way down I95 on the way to Myrtle Beach and I looked at the Phone book and we are in...Spotsylvania County... near Fredericksburg. I hope there are no ghosts around who took offense. ? ?

DI, I did some checking on CFP, to me, it looks like it is trending down.? Geesh, all I want is a replacement for FTR, which I figure is going to cut the dividend once their "merger" goes through.?

Consumer Spending fell slightly last week, as self-reported daily spending in stores, restaurants, gas stations, and online averaged $73 -- down $2 from the previous week. More importantly, it was down 22% from last year's comparable, when average spending was $94 per day. For the third week in a row, consumer spending has trailed last year's anemic spending levels by more than 20%. While it remains unclear how consumers'...
