He doesn't care at all whether you are a winner or a loser, so long as you're a player. If you take the word "winner" out of that statement, I would agree with you 100%.

The IMF said the dollar "remains on the strong side" despite recent declines, and that the greenback is now serving as "the funding currency for carry trades." The so-called carry trades, in which investors use the currency of a country with low interest rates to fund investments in more risky markets, have helped push the euro and emerging market currencies higher, the IMF said. ? The dollar and the US economy?are now...

It's ironic when you think about it. For years we were told to save more because we were spending and speculating too much. I have not noticed any big new govt push to get the small guy in, with the exception of crappy interest rates. There is a big push by pension fund mgrs and such but they get paid for the hype. I think the biggest push comes from people that just bought, whether institutional or personal. Who wants to find out they...

"Many inside the organisation believe that maintaining oil supplies at even 90m to 95m barrels a day would be impossible but there are fears that panic could spread on the financial markets if the figures were brought down further. And the Americans fear the end of oil supremacy because it would...

Duffminster, VL, Old & Gray & quite a few others have posted information on this board that I have found to be extremely useful at times & very interesting, but yet there's no mention of it in most newspapers or websites. Oh. That's simple. Our government has bailed out the newspaper industry, and is controlling the information content coming out of them. They have also openly and repeatedly...

Houston, I will try this again.. fifth time.. if you need to lower risk rebalance to the 60/40 but do it slowly as bonds are at the peak.. gold makes a good inflation hedge for the 40 percent bonds funds but it too has been on a multi-year bull run!! Bond funds give up too much of the yield. have you thought of international stock/growth stock-small caps stock.. also DJUA has been a great. ...

There are way too many factors that could influence another fall. In my opinion, there will probably be a small drop, but I don't think that it will be "major". But, I have not lost a lot of money (purely by luck, not skill), or at least recovered enough after last fall to be satisfied that things will turn around. Then you take someone like my mother-in-law who has lost almost $200k. She ...

Geithner cited signs of stabilization in the global economy but said it still needed the stimulus that governments around the world have poured in to foster stronger growth. "We're at a point now where I think we all recognize that although the world economy is now growing again, you don't yet have all the conditions for a self-sustaining recovery led by the private sector," he said....

A lot of stock gurus lately have been predicting a huge fall for the US
dollar and that gold is the best place to put your money. Is now the
right time to buy gold or gold stocks ? Are these the same gurus that were predicting subprime loans wouldn't have much impact on the stock market, or the ones calling the market bottom at DOW 10,000...9,000..8,000 and then telling you to sell everything...

On the other hand I'd like to really get a handle on the strengths, weaknessess, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of the current credit system via some sort of comparable metaphor for sake of all of us non-experts. Again you read my mind, Duff. This is precisely what I intend to do. But, for those readers who may feel the entire horizon is covered with a veiled mush that has no substance, I'd...

I think the market will tank very fast and hit definitely under 9,000 and probably under 8,000 by Xmas. It is simply too overvalued and only a few companies are earning money. Commodity stocks are the only sectors I would invest in. Oil and gas stocks, and mining stocks.

I've been accumulating bic lighters. So far I have 3,286 of them. I'll get more for those than the folks that are bartering flint stones. I've also got lots of girly magazines so that we will have something to remind us that girls used to shave their legs and arm pits.

If you have a strong stomach and are able to keep a close eye on the market, learn to swing trade. If you don't have to pay attention to your day job then learn to day trade. This market has pretty much topped out until the economy recovers in a significant way (i. e. gain jobs instead of losing them).

Frank, Great Post.. very high standard you set.. I have a very good friend of mine from New York that went back to the old country to see the family. The question about the cost of development in human terms came from the huge dam being built for power and water control. The farmers in the valley have to give up the farms so people in the cities can have water and power. China is in a ...

V_L - as I see them? So what the Wall Street Journal,Fortune 500,BBC,ABC,NBC,CBS,New York Times,Chicago Tribune and countless other news reporting agencies have to say I pick it out from them but I can not share it because it is not my view? Since the market has bottomed in March each of three major index's is up between 50-70% ...............on some of the lowest volume ever! That would seem to indicate "manipulation". China's exports have nose dived 23% this year and if you compare exports this month from a year ago its more like 45%. Wouldn't this completely correlate to the US economy that imports almost everything? ...

I for one hope it doesn't crash, I would like to retire some day. I think a lot of people are really angry and feel helpless about what is happening and sometimes they strike out in negative ways. Maybe they have lost much and would like to see things start from scratch. I don't know for sure, but you will always find more negative remarks from people than positive, and not just ...
