Exercise is exercise - if your muscles and heart are challenged sufficiently you will get the benefits. I don't think your suggestion will generate enough intensity - for a few reasons. Please see below:

I've got a rebounder and it's excellent for cardio.
It has less stress on your joints, brill for
lymphatic system, strengthens lower back and I burned a decent 600 cals in 40 minutes.

You could use a bioelectrical impedance machine to give you a
body fat percentage reading, although these can be very inaccurate, the best way in which you could do it would be to a skinfold test. For that you would need some skinfold calipers.
