03 Protege LX - OEM tires suck...

i just started working on my friends 2k es. i laugh everytime i look at the cute little tires. he has some crappy kumho tires that totally suck in the snow. but 5k/yr on tires is easy living man. why not walk to where you want to go? get some AS michelin tires. they are usually soft. maybe symmetry. grandfolks tires.

2k ES rear end noise

ah..well whenever i put in my AWR sway, i found you have to put them in with the car on the ground not sure if its the same with the stocker but if you did it while the car was in the air it would clunk like crazy took me a while to figure it out, but make sure you tighten the shit out of all the bolts, the endlinks, the sway bar bracket and any other bolts that might be loose

this just happend to me about 4 months ago just not as bad, its your struts there is not enough pressure to keep the tire on the ground and it causes it to "hop". I replaced mine with kyb struts and skunk2 coilovers, it was well worth it!

Check the bolts that hold the swaybar mounts to the rear crossmember. Maybe that could be it? Mine have been loose before, causing such a clunk.

03 Protege LX - OEM tires suck...

I have 195/50/R16 Toyo Proxes on my Protege now. I can't recommend driving in the snow with them--they're ok for a UHP tire, but are still very risky to drive on in icy conditions. Also, I've had the Falken Ziex ZE-512 on a previous car and Ziex ZE-912 on the previous car and the Protege. They both are pretty dangerous in snow/ice/slush, especially after they are a bit worn. Both received a very low rating from Consumer Reports...

Yes, the RE92's suck. On the stock rims any tire you like in 205 50-15 is fine. Little wider stance looks better and larger contact patch. If you don't live in the snow zones and just have dry/wet to deal with I can highly recommend Toyo Proxes 4's. Mine lasted about 40K miles even with some autocross weekends. Awesome tires and I miss them. Quiet and with regular rotations I got even tread wear. Soft side walls so for any...

I think it really helped to put the new bearings in the freezer and lube 'em up...

There is a write up on replacing wheel bearings in the how-to section. I would check your bearings and also maybe strut mounts.

LOL?!??! you have the ORIGINAL RE92's on it from '03?!?????!!
I'm so sorry man. I'm not a tire guy per se, but check out tire rack (.com) reviews on some khumos and yokohama's. I think the YK420 (if it's still made) is a decent tire. But for sure, swap those RE92's 'cause I'm surprised they lasted 30k miles, honestly.

I believe the offset is 52.5 and other members have run the 3 snowflakes. You are going to want a 205/40 or 205/45 tire and should be able to get away with a 215/40 but a 215/45 will require some rear fender rolling.

get new rotors. Resurfacing rotors is a waste of time and they're likely still warped.

Well that's the problem I really don't know what I can do to the car. But a general idea is I would like to get more acceleration off the line and more horsepower.
