Speaker questions

For the record, I only have a high school diploma (and I barely passed).  All of my experience in the mobile audio world has been hands on.  I've listened to 100s of different systems, had rear fill in many different setups, and I can say it's completely possible to bypass spending big bucks on rear speakers. IMO, personal experience counts a lot more than any certificate. BTW, this thread has been...

I'm sorry I got a little bit hot there. I have some issues with people that try to pull authority rather than actually look at what I see as facts, even though I get the facts wrong myself sometimes. If I went into the details to explain futher, it would hijaack the thread even futher, but let it suffice to say that it was some really old anger that had nothing to do with this, and I apologize.

Alright, if that's the case I know exactly where the problem lies: in the grounding. I currently have the amp grounded to one of the seat bolts. When my buddy and I installed it we tried our best to scrape at the inside metal and on the bolt itself but I'm pretty sure we didn't do it well enough. Now I gotta go make a run to the store and get the proper darn socket size to get the bolt out sine mine appears to be...

basically it's for some video/tv mode that possibly the axela has as an option, and it's cutting off the video screen while you are driving and playing audio only.   Just like Alpines and Pioneers do here if you try to watch a movie while driving without bypassing the safety lock.  The audio adapter you got is telling the radio it is some type of factory input (that's what they all do they...

I'm sure someone else knows this better - but my understanding is the key needs to be connected to the ignition for it to work.  When the key is turned a current runs through the key and electrifies the chip in the key.  I used a key bypass from DEI... can't remember the name now but you could find it by searching on here.  I think I used the one for a Ford that doesn't require a key to be...

Right now i have 2 6.5" kicker 3 way speakers in my front doors and stock in my back doors. My question is should i get component speakers and put those in my front doors+ tweeters in the tweeter panels and put the kickers in the back? Or just get 2 more 6.5" speakers and put them in the back and just have 6.5" all around? Also, are the alpine type r speakers good? Thanks

My 1000W Kenwood amp came today and I'll probably be hooking it up this weekend to my subs. Right now I'm trying to figure out which wire is which since I'll be tapping off the rear speakers and not doing a full upgrade. I've been able to determine so far the rear right speaker wires are Grey w/ White Stripe and White w/ Purple Stripe. However this does not seem to conform with what's ...

First let me say thanks to all of you that have posted how to's on remote starts and alarms. They were priceless. I have my 5701 installed, but have 2 questions: 1. Where do I find a wire to that I can trigger the Rear defroster? 2. I hooked up the tach wire, do I have to change the programming from Virtual Tach to either Voltage or Tachometer? Otherwise all went well pretty ...

Hi all - I've searched and read lots in the forum and love the information that's available. I'm looking for a few simple suggestions, maybe there are some people that like music like I do and share the same passion for how particular kinds of music sound. And maybe a few of them desire a look or usability factor that's not too drastically changed from a stock 3 like myself. I've got...

What gauge wire? - 9 new posts
Started 1 week, 2 days ago (2008-11-25 17:53:00)  by mxrider14
I've tried searching, but it is a tricky question to search. I have a 350 watt rms amp that is going to power two MA audio 10" subs. I need to know what gauge wire to have. Right now I have 10 gauge wire with a 30A fuse. I'm afraid to hook it up just yet, I want to make sure 10 gauge is big enough. Any thoughts?
