Hi all I've just bought Fairbairn's Get Tough, what a brilliant little book!!!! Some of the moves are similar to the Bujikan that I'm learning at the moment. I do think these books have a place and a use apart from just historical interest-there is only so many ways to puch, kick elbow ect I've also ordered Jack Dempsey's How to get Tough, can any of you experts please reconmend any other ...

I'm surprised I haven't seen it reported here. It seems to be burning up the WMA 'net. Apparently, about a year ago, Ken Mondschein found a previously unknown Fiore manuscript, by accident, misfiled in a Paris collection. He paid to have it scanned (not an insignificant amount) and now low-res images have shown up online (not good enough quality to read the verses, but you can kinda make ...

Well we're off on tour again this weekend. This time to the British Federation of Historical Swordplay Autumn exchange. Hopefully will be good as it will have representatives from most of the HEMA groups in the UK. The will be two longsword classes one on Vadi and one Fiore so I'll review those when I get back. Also I'll be watching closely Dave Rawlins I33 class as it will be my first ...

My boyfriend was telling me about Bartitsu the other night. Link to wiki article (couldn't post info here as it went all odd). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartitsu Quote: n 1898, Edward William Barton-Wright, a British engineer who had spent the previous three years living in Japan, returned to England and announced the formation of a "New Art of...

Hey German style guys: How much messer do you do? I'm primarily a bowie knife guy myself, studying Military Saber as a way to "inform" myself on bowie tech. But there seems to be a lot of good crosover 'twixt the Bowie and Messer mechanics (or so it has been reported to me by one whom I trust implicitly on the matter). Have you ever, you know, just for fun, tried sparring it out with...

Some nice videos I found of traditional stick arts from western countries, most people would not suspect there are so many. Some have become not much more than dances (often a mean to hide it, now an end in itself), others retained their martial capacity (and before bear gets upset, none of those are canes ): Juego del garrote (Venezuela) http://www.youtube.com/v/4TT6fCYXxNQ&hl=en&fs=1...

Ok guys... question time: There was a group of Chinese guys who were big into their Western martial arts in Hong Kong. They were in Mongkok and did a bunch of test cutting/sword play/contact sparring etc. based on the western weapons and martial systems. They used to have a website with videos and all.... but for the life of me I can't find any mention of them on the web and seem to have lost...
