After 4 years in shotokan and 5.5 years in shitoryu I have finally got my 1st Dan. It has been a great journey so far and am looking forward to the new opportunities this will open in my training. So I've known the kata Kanku Sho for a couple of years now and have never put much thought into the bunkai of it (I'm just starting to investigate Jion). Then, on Thursday, I was asked about a particular section of the kata and it got me baffled. I tend to be able to suss bunkai easily but this bit is fairly confusing.
