Coming back to footwork, the key to Muay Thai is the Boxing walk or dern Muay, one of the first things you should learn is Yan Sarm Khum,if you havent learnt that walk then ask your instructor about it,if he doesnt know think carefully about getting a different instructor. Mmm just re-read that last sentence and it sounds a bit harsh, maybe just ask him and if he doesnt know then it may prompt him to find out then everyone wins. You certainly can...

diet suited to muay thai?
Published (2009-12-22 13:23:00)
to the above poster Hi mate, carbs in the evening wont actually make any difference provided you are still within around 2500 cals a day. I spent alot of time researching this area last year and even got feedback from natural pro bodybuilder Layne Norton who also stated this same fact. Furthermore, as you said you train in the evening, carbs after practise should be a priority in refuelling your muscle glycogen. Much research has also...

Defending leg kicks
Published (2009-12-16 23:12:00)
Thank you for all the useful information. It feels odd to defend against kicks because in boxing I'm so used to having both feet firmly flat on the ground. I made the painful discovery that shooting for the legs as in wrestling can result in a nasty knee kick to my face. I am enjoying it and I suppose it will just take time and effort to get used to. My plan is to learn to defend kicks well before I even think about using them in offence....

absolutely agree with the comment a balanced diet is key. A good clean diet rich in protein complex carbs and good fats will be beneficial to every sporting individual. As you said you would like to loose a little weight i would recommend waiting to see what effects the 2 sessions have on ur bodyfat levels as even a little cardio with a sound diet can make a massive difference. if you decide you would still like to loose a little more,...

Just a well balanced low fat diet with plenty carbs and protein I'd say. More like cutting out your body building diet rather than a special Thai diet. I'm sure ppl on here may have more informed opinions, but I'd say just eat a good varied diet. Personally I avoid processed sugars, and try to eat regular meals, just make sure you've got fuel to work with before training.

Hi Neil, There is actually alot of different strength training techniques beneficial to Muay Thai Boxing. Periodized macrocycles are probably best used for fighters with a given timespan before the event in order to accurately determine different training phases depending on the athletes strengths and weakness e.g. 4 week endurance phase followed by 4-6 week hypertrophy and so on. ...

Personally I'd reccomend skipping and shadow boxing. Maybe think about going to a boxing gym also, a good focus mitt holder will work your footwork very well.
