ATTENTION ALL USERS: This thread has been brought forward to the moderating team. Please be aware of the words you are using and that we are dealing with written context and emotion can not be seen, therefore, it is easy to misconstrue what you really are trying to say. Martial sports, to me, are just an end to a means: improving your ability to defend yourself. In that light, the guy who got slammed chose poorly. How much worse would this have been on asphalt, on concrete? Unwise, I think, to try to win a game in a way that places yourself in peril. If he picked that "strategy" in self defense it could have been fatal instead of a painful lesson.

None of us have competed yet, true. And I don't know when we will. How do we know what we're doing is good? Maybe we don't. (shrug) We do have the opportunity to measure ourselves against Straight Blast Gym athletes at camps. We have had an SBGi Jits instructor from their Canadian gym for training and game-tweaking a couple of times. Different fighters from different gyms wander through, and we can measure ourselves against...

Is this Dwayne Rhoden? If so how have you been buddy? I've been to a few of you guys workouts and while I have to admit I did have fun, it was only because it was a change of pace from the gym I normally attend. We only spar once a week and you guys spar every session. But as far as what you guys work, from what I see you just hop in the ring and brawl a bunch. You don't work too much technique in any range. Maybe you did on the days...

NEW: SBGi Spring Camp 07 In March 2007 the top SBGi coaches gathered in CA to train, and share the cutting edge material that they were working on. This DVD set was the result. This set was shot in documentary fashion, with the intention of giving you the feel of actually being there on the mat. If you have ever wondered what SBGi is all about, this set is for you!...

Come February or so, my local dojang will be a Gracie Certified BJJ studio (or something along those lines), and I'll be taking BJJ classes there. My Tang Soo Do instructor's son teaches it, and I've had about four or five hours of total experience with grappling. During a six hour MMA clinic hosted by my instructor's son, we were taught very basic locks. He was huge on safety on this part, ...

I've heard people, in passing/joking, call no-gi "American Jiu Jitsu." A claim is that no-gi takes in techniques from a variety of other grappling arts. There's also the 10th Planet system, focusing on no-gi training. What are your thoughts?

We have alot of grapplers and MMA people on this forum, so I thought it would be cool to hear a little about where you train and who you train under. For myself, while its been a while since I've made it to a class, I've done the majority of my grappling with Chris Martell from Middletown, CT. Chris is a Purple Belt under Roy Harris. He has had Mr. Harris to his school a number of times, as ...
