Not sure about this most recent dinner, but Palmina wines have been served recently at White House dinners as well. They tend to be lower alcohol too....

No way I should be posting this now. Over the last few days I have had some lovely wines with friends an family. No chance to take notes, but for what it is worth: 1998 Dom Perignon was terrific, the 1998 Gosset Celebris Extra Brut was not so much. The Celebris showed green apples, lemons and tangerines but was tart, acidic and not terribly balanced. The Dom was a surprise. One wonders how this can happen. Mediocre vintage, enormous...

Ignacio, I've got a bunch of 96 Chambolle and Gevrey in the cellar that are drinking well with plenty in reserve, pretty happy that these Village wines are drinking well with age. Best Regards Jeremy

Madeira style question

A friend went to the island last summer and brought back this great wine : Mad?re : Barbeito Frasqueira Verdelho 1981 A few clues (in French) : Colheita ... est une vari?t? tr?s r?cente sur l?le de Mad?re.

I agree re: the '98 Montelena Estate...really quite good. I've had a few 375s and a 750 in the last year and they were all 92-93 pts to my mind. Have just one more 750, which I'll open at Christmas.
Happy Thanksgiving, Neal.

Nice notes Michael, the 07 Roulot BB is a very fine wine indeed esp. with some air time; in the moment I even decant it. It was up for sale in Germany lately for around 16.50 ? incl. taxes which was a bargain. If you don't mind: what was the restaurant price in Paris ?
Cheers
Rainer

You are a machine. Thread drift, but would you elaborate on your 06 white burg view? You have good taste, and taste so much, I'd love to get your thoughts on the vintage.

Re: white house state dinner wines?
I didn't see the list, but I assume this is for the India State Dinner? ..surely wouldn't be the first time Pride was served at 1600 Pennsylvania. Bush and others have served it countless times.
It's hilarious, as for wine and so many other things, how so many talked about the great change that would...

I'm by no means an expert-but I do love madeira.
I'd say start with Rare Wine Co's own bottlings. I think they offer great value across the major styles, cost is something like $35-50/btl.
their website http://www.rarewineco.com/html/made.htm also has a good primer on the various styles aptly located under the 'styles' tab.
Personally I like sercial the least, and tend to prefer ...

Re: Question: Donnhoff Kabinett Serving Temperature
Andrew; this wine is great, tasted it recently.
My recommendations as to serving temperature depends completely on how you prefer the wine to express itself, decanting will indeed open it and Dönnhoff's wines in my opinion usually always benefit from this when they are young.
I would...

Howard,
Good to see you posting again. Hope you and Rhoda are doing well.
I appreciate your note on the '99 Ogier. I have both a '98 and '99 waiting for a suitable opening time. Sounds as though I can open them anytime soon.
Have a great holiday season.

What is the average age of the wines in your cellar?
I just realized that CellarTracker gives average vintage data. Despite the huge influx of recent California wines (principally 2004 and later vintages), the weighted average vintage in my cellar is 2001, which is, of course, still quite young. If I exclude port (I did this using the CT ...

Personally, that is why I like to drink all sorts of different wines. They are always different and fresh. A rexent 97 Mauro Veglio Barolo provided a wonderful mature wine but was contrasted with an 06 Saxum. Both were great. On Friday, a 2000 Chente Merle CdP reminded the value of being patient with CdP.
Neither the Barolo or CdP were "top" wines of the vintage, but showing some ...

Can't wait to see your notes. Parker mentioned that its stage of development is "old" and scored it 85pts.

Am I correct in understanding that PC doesn't send notifications when wines arrive? One must log in to their account and check to see if any wines are listed as available for shipping, right?

Herman Story is not really under the radar anymore but remains a favorite producer of Syrah and Grenache from the Central Coast at a fraction of Saxum prices.
