If you are able to increase your disability rating to over 10% and you will start receiving some money(little) to pay back the government. Anything in your medical record can possibly be used as SC....request copies of your records and see a service organization representative. Yes it is BS...but you are dealing with a government organization...gather enough information to used like ammo in a war situation. Also fight the VA with a battle...

Unfortunately, it is considered "double dipping" or getting paid twice for the same thing, so before you will began collecting your disability from the VA you will have to pay back the disability severance pay, Fortunately for you, a change in the law in 1994 only requires you to pay back the money you actually received, not the total amount of the disability severance pay (so you don't have to pay back the taxes taken...

Thanks for the advice gentlemen, I'm currently rated at 10% which is what the Medical Review Board rated me at before I seperated and what the VA gave me for a rating and I'm definetly going to take the MSgt's advice and wait the first year then submit for an increase. My surgeon told me I have a 100% chance of arthritis in my left hip and the ortho and PT docs I saw after the surgery told me that with having one hip jacked up...

Thank you all very, very much for your replies. They were a big help! I forgot to mention that I volunteer at the local VA Medical Center and after calling several agencies and not getting much help, I asked around at the VA Medical Center, and some dear person led me to the Veteran's Benefits Office! There I talked to someone who helped me enormously, and even gave me all the forms to fill out. When I asked who I should mail the forms to...

Wish I could help you Sgt. I just got my OMPF, and was wondering the same thing. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have a bit of paperwork missing also.

Disability Question(s)

Currently I am rated at 20% for both of my knees having a degenrative going on. I also had applied for my wrists having tendentitis, carpal tunnel, and arthritis, but was told since I never got treatment for it while active duty, they weren't going to cover it. This all happened back in Feb. Also my feet had 5 botched toe removal surgerys that still cause me pain, but they never gave me anything for this. Could I re-apply next year for my...
