Presonus Firestudio Project will work stand alone. I guess some of their more expensive gear will also.
MOTU Ultralite does as well and allows greater mixer control from the front panel. Alesis and others make some firewire/usb mixers that could be handy live. You only need two ins and outs? USB 2 is probably fine for only a few. What is your budget? If you want great audio, many are raving ...

Have you tried contacting Tascam about it? Given that it is an old unit, it would not be surprising if it is not supported in
Snow Leopard. Tascam did not include it in their list of tested interfaces. http://www.tascam.com/article;34,2034,3800.html

I’ve bene usino 54000RPMs to record on for years now. Never had a problem. I know
professional audio people using minis all time for film, TV work and music with no issues starting with the G4s. So go nuts!

When I was in Japan (until 2007) Yamaha and
Casio both offered quite good 88-key weighted keyboards with MIDI i/o for great prices. (Prices not as good now if you are exchanging US$.) Anyway, some have USB, but even if they do not, a USB-MIDI interface should only run an extra 3-4000 yen.
