Radeon3: What Sammy meant to tell you is that in order to verify and repair your disk you must boot from your install media. You can not verify and repair the disk while it's mounted. You can, however, repair permissions on a mounted volume. Also.... How did you delete the XP partition? The correct way is to use the Boot Camp assistant to remove it while in OS X. If that's what you did, then the error message you received really is...

I have a friend who uses Carbonite to back up his Dell Laptop that he takes with him on the job as a construction Engineer. He depends on the machine and needs to back stuff up just in case. Someone recommended Carbonite. He does his backups with it from home on Cable when he returns from work. He has complained about it many times saying very slow (which makes sense with typical internet speeds) but also complained about the people who run it...

Boot the machine with your OS disc holding down C at boot up. Go into the Utilities menu and open up Disk Utility. Run Repair Disk and then try again. If that doesn't fix it, you may need to grab iDefrag and defrag the drive. Or, clone the drive to an external and then clone it back.

You don't need to reinstall it just to make the partition larger. Check out CampTune .

Can you boot into OSX? If so, go to disk utility and verify/repair your disk permissions and then verify/repair your disk. It will take several minutes to complete. Start with that and see if it helps.

Carbonite is one of many on-line backup solutions. The trouble is, that most people's Internet connections are an order of magnitude slower than connecting even the slowest USB backup drive directly to your new Mac. Using an on-line backup provider, you could be waiting days or weeks to complete just the backup, and then of course days or weeks to restore it to your Mac.

Did you download and install the Boot Camp update for XP? If not, download from here . This particular update address issues with XP SP3 and must be run from within Windows.
Regards.

I'm building Chromium OS right now. I'm going to build a VMWare image so I can test it in a VM. I'll let you know how it goes and post up some screenshots if it all works out.

While 7 works fine with the latest version of Boot Camp (3.0, included with Snow Leopard), the drivers supplied with earlier versions can be flakey.
At this stage, Snow Leopard's initial kinks have been worked out, so I wouldn't let those anecdotal comments deter you from upgrading. Most of the issues are related to third party software that just hadn't been update for SL.

It sounds like your Mac is having trouble reading the disc. Tell us a little more about the disc and where it came from.

You have tried the 2 suggestions that came to me when I read your post. Do you have the OSX 10.5 DVD that the Macbook came with? If so try booting from that with the C key down after the startup sound.

I did an upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit over my old copy of Windows XP. I too was able to do a clean install and everything is working fine. I didn't even get any messages while installing the Boot Camp drivers.

G'day and welcome to the forums Sam.
OS 7.6 is pretty old and did work on early G3's so I guess at a pinch you could install it on a G4 but first you have to get it to boot from the disc. It was not freeware as such but a purchasable item, and it also came with machine such as Performa models such as the LC680.
It i possible the disc is in fact model specific which is why it will not boot....

Thanks Andrew. I saw that this afternoon. Looks like a hefty download of over 800 MB for the full Pro version. I did want to get a look at the new version of MS Publisher but I don't know if I want to test the entire package.
I might download it anyway...
Regards.
