Helpdesk, crm, or Ticket system...
Published (2009-11-27 14:18:00)
I use vtiger for my company. It is a full blown opensource CRM with a ticketing system. It is a web front end. You can than add the customer portal which will add a web front end for clients or users to add tickets. I have it running on Debian Linux, but comes packaged for other OS platforms. The install is pretty cool, you can either download the source and compile it your self or download a full package which will install mysql, apache php...

Yep, I'm at that dilema right now. Front Page is so easy to use, I'm afraid to try something else that might be extremely time consuming. I change my site frequently as artwork is added and removed due to sale. So far, I have just been using my Windows machines to do the work for now, but I'd like to do the work on the Mac big screen.

the iMac

That's a pretty vague question..if you say web design involves running PS/Illustrator or other graphics programs and DreamWeaver or other authoring tools, then virtually ANY machine can do it. If you go for the i7 version of the 27" iMac, that's a quad-core CPU that will run these programs significantly faster than my 1.83 Ghz Core2Duo in my Mini.. I would love to know what "hard core" web design consists...

Hey Ray, Sorry for getting back the post so late, honestly I forgot that I even posted here! In terms of comparing dreamweaver to elements that's honestly where my knowledge stops. I don't know either software all too well and primarly just use dreamweaver. Most of the flash and graphics that I need designed personally or for my company are handled by my partner. That's a nice looking site though that you were able to make...

For your front page software you can run it using a virtual machine, using Virtual box, VMFusion, parallel etc. There is also the option of dual OS via bootcamp.

Well, you can install Windows via one of several different means. Or you can look for a suitable alternative. Dreamweaver is the preeminent web development package in the industry, but it's expensive and has a bit of a learning curve. For most people, I recommend Rapidweaver . Relatively cheap and pretty simple to use.

In the template selector of the theme you are using, select the photo page and it creates a slide show you can drag and drop all your pics into.

Did you create those two pages after first publishing the first three pages? Have you tried publishing to a folder and inspecting it for the pages? Have you cleared your browsers cache?
Also consider what this person said .

I think the 27" will far and beyond handle web design.
It is the flagship atm in terms of performance and if you get the Quad Core it will handle without a problem in the world ..
Have a look at THIS article on performance and benchmarks compared to other iMacs ....
Cheers

Here you are.
Note: Only use this for testing purposes. It is known that packages like this are more lax with security and as such, should only be used in a testing environment.

You can create the same effect with just simple CSS. I loathe farmes, iframes and the rest..just messes up pages to no end.
Fixed header shows how to fix any part of the website (header, sidebar on either sides, and footer). Where possible always use CSS to layout your websites, this will GREATLY simplify your HTML code and allow you to make changes to layout by manipulating the CSS file ...
