Airport connectivity problems

OK then try this - go into Network and set up a Location just for Home and use Automatic just for roaming (Starbucks). Make sure in home it shows the DNS numbers for your ISP under the DNS heading - if it does not then add them. You may need to add them under Airport and Ethernet if u use both from time to time.

Quote: It doesnt seem to be a router issue. Ive powered it off/reset it etc etc and it has worked previously on auto dhcp with the ibook and works fine with other pc type gear.. It seems like a software issue but i wonder what?? Glad you got it working. However, you shouldn't have to go through all that trouble. DHCP "should" be automatic. If it flakes out again, try removing the connection entirely through System...

MAC filtering only applies to wireless connections - and it's a useless form of security at that. None of the traffic is encrypted, and all one has to do is monitor the packets to see which MACs are allowed. Once you have that, you simply spoof your client's MAC address (very easy to do) and wait for one to stop sending traffic. After that, you're on board as an authorized user. I know of no way to do MAC filtering on a...

Airport Extreme or Express
Published (2009-11-26 13:43:00)
Not being able to hard wire into the Express is a major difference between the two. If you intending to leave the router in place, and usually have one or more computers close by that same location, I would get the Extreme. I don't like the idea of having my computer on WiFi 24/7. Yes, I know that encryption and password protection are pretty good safeguards. But still, a hard wired connection is more private and secure.

When u reset the old express - did it come up with the MAC address for the unit in AU? MAC will be on external label. Might be worth getting a copy of this to help with set up.

That is false. I have Comcast (a cable company) as my ISP and they have provided me with a cable modem. I have a Linksys wireless router hooked up to that modem and use that wireless signal. Macs can connect to the internet with almost any router as far as I am aware of. I'm at my school right now, and can say with confidence that I am connected to the internet wirelessly without an Apple ...

in "network preferences"
select "Airport" - the click advanced - click TCP/IP
set "configure IPv4" to "via DHCP"
make sure you don't use the one with manual IP.
next, click on "Reload DHCP Lease" (or something simulair to that) right next to IPv4 adress.
and close the windows saving the new settings.
Hope this works for you.
If not, there are a couple of other tricks.
cheers!

This could be a hardware problem, although I don't have too much experience here. I think that there may be a loose connection between the card and your computer, causing it to not even see the card anymore. I would take it to an Apple store and have them take a look, because this doesn't sound like a software problem to me. After you take it there, and it's not a hardware issue, at least you ...

I wouldn't post your I.P. live on the internet
Use the "Assist Me" button in the preference pane to create a new IP. I had this problem a while back and this was the only solution I could find.

How are you trying to connect? If you're clicking it in the sidebar, I don't know what to tell you, but if you're using Go → Connect to Server… then the error is coming from that malformed address. Do you want to connect with AFP File Sharing or SSH? If it's AFP, your address will be have this format (from the "Connecting to shared computers and servers using a network address" help article):...

Is Airport finding your WiFi network at home? I mean, does it show up in the list?
I helped a person with a similar sounding problem. In that case the Macbook only had "g" wireless, and the router was set to "n". Setting the router to "g" solved the problem.

here is a quick guide to getting your 360 on live, without forking out for a new router, or M$ offical wifi gizmo.
- connect 360 to macbook with an ethernet cable (crossover)
- under system preferences in mac os x (sharing), share the ethernet connection with airport
- give your macbook a static ip address, and also give your 360 a static one too (not the same though)
- open up ...

Just to update my post: I have tried restricting my own ethernet access to no avail. Wondering if there is something else I need to do besides just having a general block in the Access Controls.
