Magellan is doing something good, they are providing a 20 dollar voucher towards their carkit if the app is bought between 12/4 and 12/8 I believe. Such great marketing. I won the thanksgiving day contest so I may just use that voucher if the tomtom car kit does not ship before Jan 5

Macworld reports that Apple has taken control of a trademark for the term "i-phone" in China after reaching an agreement with the previous holder to resolve a conflict that could have prevented Apple from releasing the iPhone there under its global brand name. Think about it for a second: if this were really an effort to reduce network traffic, it would be a piss-poor way of going about it. For one thing, denying the iPhone to new customers would be far less dependable than throttling data speed. For another, they're closing down only one of many distribution channels, meaning that people in NYC will still be able to get all the iPhones they ...

The "previous" report is for the entire cell phone industry for the whole world --- not just the US. It's easy to spot that when you look at Nokia's revenue for 6 months at 17 billion dollars --- that's not possible for Nokia where they have a single digit market share in the US.
France's population is about 62 million --- 1/5 of the US population. So 1.8-2 million iphones in France ...

I have to agree with the "no data connection" crowd. I LOVE FREE! But when do I need directions the most - normally outside of data coverage areas, or where I just can't afford to wait for an AT&T cell tower to lighten up enough to deliver decent 3G downloads (gotta laugh there a minute). Just knowing I have the maps onboard is comforting.
