You can't do it with MobileMe. I use Outlook which Sync's with MM and also Google Calendar which I can share with others.

Renewing an email only account

No, you cannot use those discounts to renew mobileme, only create a new account. If you want to renew, it will cost you the 99 bucks, as there is no option for email only.

Can iDisk be like Dropbox?

I just installed dropbox and I thought you can make any folder a dropbox, but it seems that you must place the folder within the dropbox it creeates. I want to be able to select folders to sync without moving them into a dropbox.

Not to defend Apple or MobileMe but, but: "It's becoming a real problem for my company." MM is specifically NOT meant for business use. Look into Google Apps if you want email for your business.

Using iDisk to backup files

Your Documents and iDisk folders are different. You need to put the updated document in the iDisk folders for it to sync with the cloud. If you want to seamlessly do this, see post #11 in this thread... http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=807655

I'm pleased with it and so I'll be re-upping. While there's no argument that there are cheaper alternatives, I don't think any of them integrate as well with my mac and iPhone as mobileme does. I think for the price you get a lot of function and utility, at least I do. Plus I don't like the idea of google snooping in my emails/docs or their EULA stating that if I use their services, ...

I found the problem. I had to UNPIN it then run it from the start menu. Then pin the one that was now open. It appears that this one had a different name. That solved the problem.

Kind of. Turn iDisk Sync on in System Preferences on all of your computers. Now, use your iDisk only, in other words, stop using your Documents folder. iDisk syncing keeps a local copy of the iDisk contents on each of your computers, so you can still access your files when you're not connected to the internet.

Just tested this from my mobileme account to my old gmail account and it worked fine for me, didn't end up in junk. Perhaps it is the content rather than the sending domain? You can try sending me an email to fredb6654 at googlemail.com and I'll see if I get it. EDIT: I also created a new account and emailed that from my mobileme and that hit the inbox with limited text in...

Have you considered just using the Google ActiveSync (Exchange) which has Push for Email, Contacts, Calendar. As far as MM, I believe you can point to the Google SMTP Server and let it set the From Email Address. I have not tested but I think you can have Google use a From Address based who sent the email. You can't change the SMTP Server for MM Web Interface but you can from the ...
