If you want to modify your rom, with fan speed and other stuff, download RBE (radeon bios editor) for Windows. With Catalyst Control Center in Windows you can see the card fan rpm also.

EDIT - below is a contextual error. From the front page some time ago - Jewel in a heap of news. Original story from Hardmac . Personally my upgrade's in Q2, so an early release would be really beneficial for testing systems for any spectacular problems that could occur. Not to mention it could lead to a revision to fix those problems. Gotta love that being a MacPro user/enthusiast means being part of a sample group.

I would think any PATA/IDE interface would work. If you don't want to keep it in a case, get one of the adapter cables like the one Newer makes (OWC) ( http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer...gy/U2NV2SPA TA/ ). It works with pretty much everything ('cept SCSI) and connect through USB 2.0.

It sounds as if you have a pre 2009 MP. In these machines the separate power cable bundles are actually connected by plugs under the fan unit that sits between the PSU and the ODD bay. Check for any loose connectors.

The RAM speed is based off of the base 133 MHz BCLK value. The problem is accessing the memory multiplier to change it from x8 to x10 for the faster RAM. You don't really have access to the EFI in order to do so.

Get anything. You'll need an IDE to SATA converter or the technical knowledge to take your Mac Pro apart to get to the unused SATA ports on the motherboard.
You'll also need Toast to be able to actually use the Blu-ray drive to burn data disks.
And, as always, you can't watch movies.

Don't know about Parallels, but WinXP absolutely flies on my 1,1 MP using VMWare Fusion 2.06! I tried out Fusion 3 in hope that Win7 would run OK in a VM environment, but the performance is just abysmal, despite all the "3D graphics" BS. So I'm to sticking with Fusion 2.06 for VMs and Boot Camp for Win7. Anyway, getting back to Parallels, I owned the early versions (1 & 2), but ditched it ...

Mac Pro tower - just too big.
We've had these towers since the G5 era...they are big as refrigerators. Many (many) in the mac community have been hoping for a smaller, streamlined tower for a long time. You remember the old PowerMac 9500 with SIX PCI slots -- even that tower wasn't nearly as big at the Mac Pro tower. THe major ...

hey all,
I just need a bit of help deciding between a software RAID5 vs software RAID1 array for archival purposes. the RAID will be installed into my hackintosh and shared over the network for TimeMachine backups as well as extra backups from my multitudes of external HDDs.
i am thinking 3x1TB WD Greens (RAID5) for $103Aus each, or 2x1TB WD Greens (RAID1). my main concern is data...

I'm trying to sort through the facts here.
You are running a 2008 MP with one stock superdrive in IDE and the second ODD bay is fitted with a SATA HDD which is connected to one ODD SATA port by a standard SATA cable. Presumably this HDD is powered by the second Molex power in your ODD bay. The second ODD SATA port is unused.
In your four HDD bays you are running no RAID array and there...
