Apple & any other company in the US have a legal right to protect their IP, which helps the US to prosper. You're free to reuse opensource software with conditions, but this is not the case. It's off by default. So if you never turned it on it would of course be off. Nothing to worry about. Most people are reasonably protected by their router anyways.

Spotlight is the engine for searching. Perhaps your plist file is corrupt. That's com.apple.spotlight.plist Found in Users/ YourUserName /Library/Preferences Move it to the Desktop and try again.

The drive is already formatted correctly from the previous OS X install...all it did was erase. That can take some time, but it's typically quicker than a reformat. If you are nervous, Disk Utility can overwrite the drive once with zeros or 7 times over with equally meaningless data. That will take some time. Of course, you'll have to reinstall again.

Here you go . Growl notifications can be used by dozens of apps, so even an uninstaller program wouldn't have clear information as to if you wanted to remove it when you delete Adium, because you may have other apps (such as iTunes or Mail) that you want to use Growl for.

I see the problem. My user accounts are all screwy (e.g. I see an admin-level user in "Accounts" without corresponding user folder...can't log on to that account... etc. So I'm going to totally redo. Check your International>Formats preference pane. (I'm using OS10.5.8) Click Customize in the Time panel. My Hour is a single digit. What's yours? It might be over-riding the other setting.
