...but I'm just learning. Bought a used G4 with Jaguar on it. Over the years, upgraded to Panther via a multiple upgrade that my boss had purchased. He gave me one, he's a good guy! So far, legal as far as I know. One day (recently) my hard drive crashes. I install a new drive and install OS X with install disc from when I bought the computer off suck-bay. I now have a ...

What I've got is a MacBook and an Intel iMac. My iMac is set up how I want it to be, and it'll take me ages to set my MacBook up the same. What I want to do is just copy over all the setting from my iMac. I'm not sure exactly how this would work, but I'm planning on just copying the Library folders from my iMac to my MacBook. Copy over the Application folder to, and what ever ...

I have two external Oxford hard drives in a single firewire case that were set up as raid slices a couple of years ago. Now when I hook them into my computer (Mac OS 10.5.4), they do not appear in the finder. If I go to disk utility, they are there, but I can't do anything with them. It gives me the option to convert from raid set version 1.0 to 2.0, but when I push the convert button ...

I have a web based program that has a link that opens as a pdf. In Safari, it opens as a web page. I need the link/pdf to open in Adobe, as the audio doesn't work otherwise. I don't have this problem in Firefox, but have 6 other computers to change. Does anyone have any insight?

I downloaded a program called httpmail_tiger_universal to my computer to enable me to use hotmail through my mac mail, but aside from the fact that it didnt work... it also freezes my mac mail everytime i open it and i have to force quit it. the reason it freezes it is because there is a popup that comes up that says - "httpmail plugin update available version 1.52 of is now available ...

The first thing I noticed was that my home page was gone and had been replaced with the apple home page (the default page). Then I noticed that the "home" button on my toolbar was gone - and it had been there just a moment before when I clicked on it and got taken to the apple home page! When I checked my safari preferences, I discovered that my "history" preference had been ...

Getting serious about photography I need a better solution for transferring photos from my CF memory cards to my Powerbook G4 (1.67GHz). I currently have a USB card reader (not sure if it's USB 1 or 2) and a (painfully slow) PCMCIA to CF card adapter which is plugged into the PCMCIA slot of the laptop. To transfer the photos I first drag them from the memory card over to the desktop...

For the past few days, my i-mac (10.4.11) has been playing music randomly. I'm not sure what the cause is, but I assumed it could be limewire, so I deleted it. I'm currently using Macscan to look for spyware, but no spyware files have been detected. I know what program it plays through-- Safari. and as far as I can tell it always plays my i-tunes songs. I would really appreciate some ...

My 12-year old started 7th grade last week - at a new charter school specializing in science and technology. Despite all the wonderful things I'd heard about the school when it opened last year, I was appalled to discover, when I visited, that the school's laptops are all PCs - either because of an unfortunate decision by the school's original director (who's no longer there) or ...

I was using v7 and all my audio cd's came out distorted and with static. I tried different brands of cd's, and different audio files, but no luck. Then I upgraded to v9, and while the distortion and static is reduced, it's still bad enough to prevent me from being able to tolerate it. What's the deal? Is there another burning program I can switch to? I have so many cd's...

I have the most recent generation iMac (bought last May), and love it. My wife has a P.O.S. Dell laptop that I'd like to replace with a Mac. Normally, I'd go buy the latest and greatest iMac and give it to her, but I know it will be over kill. She's not a tech person at all. I'm constantly having to fix things or answer questions about things with her iPhone and/or laptop, etc...

Hopefully many of you will remember good old Winamp the mp3 player. It always had some great visualizations to watch while listening to music. I figure that the Mac should be able to do some impressive things, visually. Is there anything similar I should check out? Impress me haha

Hi Guys, I've always struggled with explaining to people the difference between quitting an application and closing a window (when I'm helping someone switch to the Mac), since Windows just quits the application when you push the X, no matter what. I tend to just close the Safari and Mail windows and quit all other applications that I'm done working in. I know some ...
