If you're down to 1 bar, it can be difficult to initiate the connection, but if you go closer to the router and start the connection you'll be able to move away and still use the signal in my experience. What kind of encryption scheme are you using? WPA/WPA2 is better in my experience at longer distances than WEP due to the lower network overhead (WEP is horribly insecure as well).

I bought my son a MacBook refurb for Christmas this year and it is here now and I'm comparing the two and I definitely prefer the newer model look

Any RAM may fail, and even the best memory tests sometimes don't detect failing RAM. Try putting your original RAM back in and see if the freezing goes away. Please, please, please be sure to ground yourself as well as possible when handling the RAM. Keep one hand on the metal frame of your computer. If the original RAM works, but the Crucial RAM seems to cause problems, contact Crucial and request a replacement. Even the best RAM...

Are you restarting your machine with your restore disk 1 in the optical drive, immediately holding down the c key, and choosing your restore disk 1 as the startup disk and running Disk Utility from it?

2 Calendars on the Desktop Using a Geektool Script?
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to display 2 different calendars (Gregorian and Islamic) on the desktop using a geektool script.
I have tried asking in the Geektool thread in the picture gallery forum and no one has answered.

Turn off resizing by finger spreading (new trackpads)?
Ok, this is becoming annoying. Because I like to keep my thumb at the bottom of the trackpad for pressing the button. If my thumb is touching the pad while I'm using my other finger to move the pointer about the screen, then resizing occurs. And it happens so quickly, that it...

Hey folks,
Short version:
If you have an Early 2009 white Macbook (with the nVidia 9400M integrated video), you may have a defective LCD. I'm collecting serial numbers to establish a pattern of which notebooks have the defective LCD and which are usable. Please post the first 5 characters of your serial number, which model LCD you have, and if you notice lines/pinstriping (see below ...

How strong a signal does the Windows laptop indicate?
My wife's piece-of-crap Sony laptop is, paradoxically, the king of WiFi reception here. It can connect robustly where our several Mac laptops cannot. I blame the Macs' metal bodies vs. the cheesy plastic of that crashy freezy junky virus-magnet of a Vaio. So it's possible it's a signal issue in your case.
I ended up installing a ...

You want a 40-55" HDTV that runs at 1280x800 so it can mirror the Macbook's screen natively? Good luck with that.
Can you start by explaining why you can't extend your desktop? Normally, what you would do is run your Macbook at its native resolution and then run your TV at its own native resolution. You can still full screen any video you want on the TV this way.

Don't know how much this matters to you but I think that they look cheap. The plastic is really shiny and it looks like it will scratch easily. The black plastic MacBook that I used to own looked better not because of the colour but because the finish on it wasn't shiny. Also the screen on the one I was looking at wasn't anywhere near as bright as the MBP's/airs

What are you using it for? Sometimes applications take up a lot of processor ( --> power) if it is doing something intensive.

You don't have enough free contiguous space in order to split off a partition of that size.
Your best bet is to make a Time Machine back up. Then erase your MacBook's disk. After that in Disk Utility make the two partitions the size that you want and them restore Snow Leopard to one. Finally install Leopard on the other partition.

I would :
1. Keep your mother's hard drive in a safe place and not touch it anymore.
2. Get an other hard drive and try to fix your mother's computer with it.
3. When everything is fixed, put the previous hard drive in place
And after this, backup backup backup everything for the future. At this time I don't think you have lost your mother's data. But you have maybe screwed her mac...

Try turning the brightness down a bit maybe? The screen on here is far brighter than most anything I've used recently.
The refresh is the same as other LCD screens, and you said you used glossy screens, so I doubt that's it.
The other thing could be eye strain from the text smoothing perhaps? That can be adjusted in System Preferences-->Appearance
