• Load the DVD into your Mac's DVD drive. • Once the disc is mounted, double-click it to open the disc. • Double-click on the VIDEO_TS folder. • Locate the largest .VOB file and drag that onto the MEPG Streamclip icon. • Once MPEG Streamclip launches, you can set an IN and OUT point if needed. • Go to File->Export to QuickTime. • When the export window ...

Is there any way I can fix the following problem with FCE4? - every time I initialize capture, a message telling me there is an issue with the source tape appears and the capture aborts. I've set up so I'm capturing to an external drive, and I've deselected the "abort on dropped frames" default. I'm using a macbook pro and the camera is a panasonic AG DVX100B -not sure if this is an ...

Hi, I'm actually writing about an issue a friend of mine is having. He's on FCP 4, 10.4 (i think) on a dual 2.5 G5 Friday, he was editing fine no problems, Saturday, the OS crashed multiple times while he was editing, he did disc warrior, permission repair, etc. The crash was the one where it goes to a gray screen with the message in multiple languages (what's the ...

I have a short Vhs home movie (with audio) that I transferred to Dvd. Im attempting to import this video into a iMovie or iDvd slide show. I have already downloaded Streamclip and then found that I now need an Mpeg2 playback componet from Apple for apx. $20.00. The download description states that if I want to TRANSCODE mpeg2 video content into other formats I will also need ...

Hard drive speed and render times – where’s the bottleneck? I just got FCP and a Canon HF100. I’m currently using a MacBook Pro, to upgrade to a MacPro hopefully in about a year. From what little I know about FCP so far, it looks like I’ll be editing in ProRes SQ 1920 x1080, using the 384 x 216 Photo JPEG proxies. For most of my videos I’ll use no more than two streams, but I’...

I'd like to convert a video file into a series of still frames. Either one jpeg for each frame, or one frame from each second, etc. Doesn't matter too much. Any recommendations? Thanks!

LaCie just came out with a new RAID enclosure: http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=1 1113 The 4big Quadra which has Firewire 800 and eSata connections, along with 4 drives and can do a RAID 5. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with LaCie RAIDS? I currently shoot with a Canon GL2 and edit on Intel MBP. I will be getting a MacPro next year. I am ...

I don't have an AVCHD camera to play with the "Log and Transfer" stuff in FCE so I don't have a very good understanding of how that window looks and feels. Can someone answer some questions for me? How exactly does that work? You hook up the camera and get the window up and going to where you can see the clips. Can you "review" these clips by playing them (before ingesting them...

Well I am getting ready to step up my (serious hobbyist/prosumer) video work and get an HD camera. Trying to decide between which format of HD...ie HDV, or AVCHD. Been using tape based SD. Obviously flash type cameras (AVCHD) are computer intensive because it must be converted to AIC for editing. And, tape based cameras seem to be most preferred for editing. But, while HDV is...

Hi Folks, I'm putting together some time lapse video from dSLR source images. I will probably want to be outputting to 720p video, and the individual source frames are obviously a lot larger resolution, like 3872 x 2592. What I've done so far is used Quicktime Pro to save the series of images to one very large .mov, then in the past I've taken these files over to Final Cut ...

Hi there! I've got a project which was made in Imovie and have been asked to send it on ether Betacam SP 9PAL);Digital Betacam or DV cam. It's probably obvious to some of you but I'm lost here: How do you actually safe your project on the cassette? IMovie is giving me options to save it in variety of formats (the right ones as well), but how do I transfer it to DVcam? The only means for...

I would second Apple's Pro Training Series as very good learning guides. Get the Final Cut Pro 6 book to begin with and go from there (I've been through Color, Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro, FCP Beyond the Basics and FCP The Craft of Editing and they are all very good and teach you something new). Plus if you really want to you can go and get certified from Apple based on these if you really...

Hi all, I posted this in another thread but thought I would try here as well. I'm hoping someone can help me. I just bought a new Panasonic HDC-SD100, and I connect the camera to my comp, pick and choose the clips I want in the Log and Transfer window (Final Cut Pro 6), and they copy to my hard drive. Really easy and quick. My problem: several clips in a recent hour's worth of ...

My dad has gotten me a western digital 500gb harddrive. When i went to transfer some audio and video files from a video project from one computer, it doesnt let me move them to the harddrive. It seems as though the drive has protection against media files. So really, i dont know the use of this anymore. Is there a way, when im shooting digital video, to record straight to this drive so ...

Hi all, I found a way to archive Canon HF10 / HF100 AVCHD footage (without conversion) and at the same time view the footage anytime I want without the camera hooked up. Also, I can view multiple archives in the FCP Log & Transfer window at once again with no camera or card reader! Let's Read on! For those happy with the current workflow provided by iMovie & FCP, don't read on. ...

I'm not sure if this goes in this topic, but it seemed close enough to me. How would you set up a live feed connected to a capture card connected to a console, through your mac computer, onto www.Ustream.tv? That may not be to specific, so tell me if it isn't. BTW, i have an iMac, and a pinnacle video capture for mac capture card.

Coming from iMovie background (from MiniDV days... now AVCHD user), I was initially put off by FCE 4's UI. I guess I was expecting Aperture-like experience, but FCE felt more like Photoshop. After following helpful video tutorials on Apple's website, and perusing several chapters from 1100-page manual, it has become second nature. I have only been using FCE for few months, so I am still...
