Also consider that .avi, .mov and .mpg are only file formats, meaning they are a container for video and audio encoded with different codecs like Xvid, H264, ProRes, MPEG-2, .... I would go with .mov encoded with the Apple DV codec, or with .dv, which is obviously the DV codec. The compatibility list is those cameras Apple has tried. It does not necessarily exclude yours. I do recommend though that you have your iMovie and QuickTime updated to the most recent updates. If you have tried the camera and it doesn't work, then perhaps something like MPEG Streamclip can convert the files for you. Another tools is ffmpegX.
