Oh, I agree that the barrier to entry is too high right now to be practical. Still doesn't mean I don't wish there *were* competition or that I don't think it would be a good thing if there were.

Well if Apple ever does release a design suite to challenge Adobe, I think the best start would be to acquire and revive Freehand, seeing as Adobe no longer seem to want it. Add some new features, bring it up-to-date and you'd have a very good way to start gaining some loyal customers, as I know Freehand was very popular. Bundle it with Aperture 3, a raster graphics app and a web design/management app and Mac users would finally have a...

but if it's coming out of a bag, it's not longer an unboxing. also, those arrows and emphatic lines are coming from behind the bag. i suggest making a smaller 3d box (like the one before the bag revision), use the gradient to make a shine come out of the box, and have a product (could be the monitor) levitating over the box. maybe i'll make one real quick if i have time later to show you what i mean

Previewing Vector Artwork Clip Art.
Published (2009-11-06 16:07:00)
You can convert most vector clipart .ai and .eps into .pdf files by opening and resaving them from Preview. The huge advantage of .pdf files is that they preview right in Finder , especially in CoverFlow . They are also much, much, much smaller files than .eps files and most .ai files. They also have transparent backgrounds where .eps files are opaque. The only problem is batch converting them. Preview is fast and makes the smallest files but...

If you go to MailChimp.com, they have some templates available to work with. Also, if you do some Googling, you'll find lots of information available concerning how to format your emails (i. e. max suggested width, etc).
I think you aren't getting a lot of replies to your posting because it is a bit vague what, exactly you are asking. It seems to me you are asking how to build the ...

I'm not qualified to judge, but i can tell you that I had mistaken that thing under LATEST WORK to be a giant advertisement . How I did that, I don't know.

In the past, I've taken image library figures upon white backgrounds, and turned them into grey or black silhouettes. Too much detail within the figure can be a distraction. Even tracing or working on an image you find in Google images would do the trick.

Maybe you have selected 16 bits/channel or the colour space (RGB, CMYK, LAB, ...) is not supporting the effects.

The middle picture seems to vaguely resemble the style of henna tattoos. The others' styles seem shaped by the limitations of the printing press or lithography or whatever the method used so even though I don't know whether it can really be considered a style in the ars-est-celare-artem way, they both seem line-art.

Photoshop Elements offers pretty much enough features for most people. Gimp is a free solution and many people use it. If you buy Photoshop, you are most likely to actually use it, then say a cheaper solution.
Sure it would be nice to have an alternative solution, but I already spent time and money learning Photoshop… I'm not going to go and buy another solution to learn.

Get an AutoCad book.
You can pick up the basics pretty fast by just experimenting with the program.
Also, make sure you get the right version of AC. There is a regular version, a light version, a civil (I think) version, and lots more.
I'm guessing you'll need the civil version. 3D stuff is mostly done in Solidworks these days.

Illustrator CS4: LiveTrace and Paint: without the outliney look
I've been experimenting with LiveTrace and Paint in Illustrator CS4. They are great tools, but I'm now wondering how I could make illustrations in this way that are not in the "outliney" style.
I'm starting with a scanned pencil or ink drawing, doing a LiveTrace ...

it doesn't really look like a box to me. Try making it more dimensional and changing the point of view up or down, side to side. Also try giving it flaps like a real box. Look at the Apple installer package icons for inspiration.

I use a full-sized keyboard. Having access to keyboard shortcuts and keys for special formatting characters including the keypad is crucial, particularly for Quark or InDesign. My desk is a bit messy, anyway, so extra cables don't worry me.
Same with mice; the Apple Pro mouse is still my mouse of choice. Large, single button that doesn't leave my wrist aching after a few hours, using ...

Most designers who participate in a business model like crowdspring are not going to be able to provide the kind of service that major industry clients want. They may be talented but that doesn't mean they are creative or know how to establish relationships. In order to solve a businesses design problem you need to do the research to come up with an innovative solution. I found that the best...
