iTunes/Mac Mini/ATV &...

I've been wondering what's going on why people say that 1080p isn't supported for ATV. And maybe this is a stupid question, but since I have hooked my ATV up to my HDTV via HDMI I have the 1080p option on my ATV video settings. I know this seems stupid, are they just flat out lying that is it not 1080p even though that's what they say the setting is? EDIT: I don't get that, it says 720p on the ATV site but why put it...

Can no longer play purchased videos

I also tried QT Player but it had the typical gray screen. What was weird was that it wouldn't play on my desktop hackintosh or Apple TV, but played fine on my HTPC hackintosh and my MBA. It was about 2 hours before it started playing on the ATV, then I checked my desktop and it was fine on it, too. A strange problem.

Drobo Pro + Apple TV and iTunes
Published (2009-11-20 08:00:00)
The only thing I'd add is that it might be wise to make a separate partition on the Drobo for your TM backups: otherwise, Time Machine will gradually fill up the whole drive with backups (it keeps backing up until the drive is full, then starts throwing away the oldest backups). I set up a 600Gb TM partition on mine, left the rest as one big volume for my iTunes library etc.

thanks justaregularjoe for your reply. I have some questions. 1. do you own a revo - what spec? 2.What OS do you use. 3. What MC software, have you tried xbmx. 4. The only issue I can see with xbmc is that I could not at all get youtube to work with a YT log in fiunction so Ican play videos from my YT favorutes...how do you do this. 5. What about BBC iplayer people say its slow/stutters on revo. 6. Setting up music playlists not as slick as...

I'll be trying this out today. As soon as the current encode I'm doing for my son is done. Now it feels like the current rip is taking forever. :-) Quote: Originally Posted by zedsdead Any word on if the official version works with Meta-X or I am going to have to migrate over to Lostify? WDTV vs AppleTV Help...
Published (2009-11-20 11:28:00)
I have both the benefits of the WDTV is that it plays pretty much anything you throw at it without converting. The interface is primitive but its functional. I find the ATV will do what you need it to do if you spend some time with it. 720p MKV's encoded thru Handbrake look fantastic, they just take time to convert. Same with 1080p blu ray rips from my collection, Encoding them down to 720p takes time, but they look great.

Holy crap, the 64-Bit version is FAST! It jumped up 2x in speed for Apple TV HD encoding from an Eye TV stream. Was getting around 35fps, now 70fps. Nice.
I love this program. Thanks to all the developers.
Any word on if the official version works with Meta-X or I am going to have to migrate over to Lostify?

It would seem that getting two defective units would be statistically unlikely (but not impossible). I assume you've done a factory restore? Have you tried using another computer's iTunes library as the sync library? Do you have anything on top of the ATV? Is it sitting on metal? Not sure what's happening, just trying to cast a few ideas....

Handbrake is pretty flaky with MKV conversion. I'd say 30% of mine would fail. Supposedly the next release will be more stable.

Using Batch Rip to Automate DVD/BD Ripping
This workflow uses several technologies to automate the ripping process. For DVDs, FairMount and VLC are used to decrypt and mount DVDs on your system. A subroutine within the Action will then copy the entire DVD to your hard drive. Also, if your have more than one DVD drive, this Action will allow multiple DVDs to copy at the same...

How do I copy a library from Apple TV to itunes?
Hi,
Just purchased an imac, and my external hard drive on my pc that contained my music library crashed. My entire music library is also on my apple tv. Can I transfer the apple tv library to itunes on my new imac, or transfer back to itunes on my old pc?

I have been wondering the same thing - how does Apple do it - HD version and SD versions - you don't see both - how could an end user do the same thing?
Any ideas!

IMHO, for movies and TV programmings anyway, center channel is the most important channel in home theater. If your room allows it, there is nothing wrong with using identical speakers across the front, although accommodating tower standing speaker as a center channel such as Polk Monitor 70 can be a challenge.
As a rule of thumb, you want the timbre (tonal quality) across all the multi-...

It currently already does everything I want it to do, but then I only use it for lossless music into the hifi system via an external DAC. The one glaring issue which would be so easy to fix is the limited size of the hard disk. I don't particularly want to stream from another server - I want it to be effectively standalone except for when syncing, like a big iPod. Putting a 500GB disk in ...

The Apple TV is a nice device in itself with no add-ins, check out the spec on Apple's home page for what it can do. A lot of people, including myself have added the ATV Flash product, which upgrades your Apple TV to support web browsing, Boxee, Hulu and tons of other items.
I personally removed mine as it made the Apple TV sluggish, but YMMV.
Search the web and you will find a ...

I would 100% take an nvidia ion based nettop over any other streaming device, including the ATV.
Install xbmc and everything else will seem like a cheap gimmick.

I'm no specialist in the area, but I just don't see it.
We're still in the middle of an economic disaster, countless people have just splurged for a new TV in recent years anyway to get HD (with many more still to make the jump as their old standard def sets are serving them well).
I'd be utterly amazed if that many people make another big purchase that they probably don't really ...

I have an old Sony Trinitron 27 tube TV and the picture on it is amazing. However, my stepdad has a 40 Bravia LCD and it looks just OK. I dont know the model number. In fact, he frequently comments that my 32 L Series Samsung LCD looks much better than his Sony.
We both paid around $1400 for ours, but I got mine a year before him.
So, like any HDTV it depends on the model, ...
