Have you verified screen resolution? LCDs will run at a lot of resolutions but will only look their best on their native resolution (e.g. 1024x768 for your iBook)?

Enabling the root user is one step. Then you log is as the root user. You *have* to be logged in as root to have full copy/delete privs to the System folders. Boot from InternalHD. Enable the root user account. Log in as the root user. Delete ExternalHD/System/Library/ Copy InternalHD/System/Library -> ExternalHD/System/ Use Disk Utility to repair permissions on ExternalHD Reboot into ExternalHD, see if all is well.

Huh? Why would you use USB for external storage on an iBook? Firewire is way faster on a G4 and can provide bus power.

Do they no longer sell your enclosure or an updated version because you can get the same one again if it has worked well for you in the past. I have a Macally enclosure and it works well for me. It has what you are looking for which is 2 Firewire and one USB connections. Try going to places like Newegg.com and read up on the user reviews of each product. As for your current hard drive have you tried a hard drive repair software?

Is Lightscribe Worth it?
Published (2009-12-29 08:55:00)
Actually the media isn't that expensive. it's about the same price or equal to regular media.. I've checked. It's CHEAPER than printable (CD's or DVD's that you can print directly on) media that you're referring to. It May be a gimmick but These type of optical drives are shipping on every computer sold at Office Depot, And most of the default ones at BestBuy. I Agree about using a printer but that's...

You can backup as many Macs as you like on the same drive with Time Machine, so as long as the drive has enough space there is no real need for a separate drive for each. Are all your Macs using 802.11n or are you using a mixed network? Do you have a cordless telephone in the house causing interference with your wireless network perhaps?

I've been told it's both licencing fees and OS modifications that would be necessary, with the latter being the bigger issue. Either way, I'll just add an external drive when BR burner prices and BR media prices both drop. EDIT: I just checked and media prices have dropped significantly, in the last couple of months. A 10 pack of Sony or Verbatim 4X Blu-ray media goes for about US$30 ...

It's a neat idea, anyway. You get a silkscreen style B&W permanent label on your CDs. It also doesn't cost anything extra; with labels you'd have to factor in the cost of the label itself plus the ink for your printer (which isn't cheap.) The drawback, of course, is that there's a much larger upfront cost. It's also only B&W, while with a label you can print color. However, the problem...
