The Usual Question: What to charge?
Published (2009-11-14 05:29:00)
Photography is hard hit by this economy, more than most other businesses. I notice that I get two kinds of clients. 1. Those who would have paid a higher price anyway because they like my work. 2. Those who I'd have lost with a higher price. You never know beforehand which is which.

Not to derail, (since then I'd have to have a stern talking to with myself about it, and that could be tricky), but Adobe releases new versions with new features that aren't even necessary for most folks. It's not sad to not know every nuance of Live Paint or whatever to make a logo. The tool doesn't make the creativity.

I need a recommendation for a good company/site to design a logo for a professional association. The logo would be used for web site, stationery, stamp etc. Ideally, I do not have big budget and am looking for reasonable cost

I’d consider the second option quite good, really. Perhaps a fairly small fee up front (perhaps $1,000 or so, depending on the complexity and time-consumingness of the task—a fee that’s just big enough you’d consider it acceptable as full payment, if worst came to worst), and then a second fee to be paid in a year’s time, when it’s become clearer how the firm will fare, perhaps laid out as a ...

First off, Photoshop is not the tool for logo design; Illustrator is. But since you don’t have that, there’s no point in harping on about it. Just make sure you keep as much as you can of the logo as vector.

Very cool design, congrats!
Here are my comments...
You are going to get dinged on the very sloppy iWeb code as far as your Google pagerankings go, and you are also going to get spam harvesters with your email address exposed like that. Your Portfolio page is also not search engine friendly, and seems very slow to load. With Javascript off I'm unable to see your portfolio page at all, and...

He says "I'm going to get those 100 images I need." Sounds like he has contracted with the couple to supply 100 images from the three day event.
But yes, with cost of digital photography, It's easy to justify shooting much more than you need. Especially with a photojournalist approach, as you are not controlling/choreographing the situation. It's much better to overshoot and edit, than the ...

there's no magic button in illustrator to do what you want to do. Just your own tweaking with the pen tool.

Auto means exactly that. The software uses formulas to determine where black and white levels should be. Sometimes, the image is great the way it was shot. Read about how auto-levels work and you can start doing your own levels adjustments.
