Curious why 195 size cost more...
Published (2009-11-12 18:31:00)
Its hard to figure out tire pricing sometimes. . It may because the 195 is slightly wider. The RE960AS is one of the best all around all season tires you can put on a Miata in 14 inch. I would give you my on them.

16" wheels on NA

If you are buying new tires, why not go with the OEM NB tire size for 16": 205-45-16?

tire balance?

I started with that Desert Red, then realized he was talking about the entire wheel. I guess rims/wheels has turned into shocks/struts.

Will 185/70 14's fit on NA?
Published (2009-11-14 19:40:00)
It will fit but your car will look a little funky. Plus your speedometer will be off due to the larger tyre diameter. Your ride should be softer though, don't know if that interest you. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but its on you.

I live down a 1/2 mile of dirt/gravel and use RT-615's lol. Hopefully they last at least 10k miles. Maybe the Kumho Ecsta AST or ASX. All seasons.

These wheels came off a 2007 Mazda 3 . I'm mainly concerned about the offset. Will the 52.5 work ok?

A bent lip is one thing, but actual out of round or wobble (runout) is a different matter.
I've encountered some potholes so used a dial gauge to check the runout. Max was about 0.030".
The '07 has a spec for maximum runout of tire and wheel of:
radial 0.060"
axial (lateral) 0.080".
Perhaps you could check the runout on your car.

Wheels are wheels no matter the model, I painted my old aftermarket 14 inch NA wheels using Dupli-color and it turned out fine. I did spend a lot of time prepping the surface, thats why I was able to achieve a decent job.

I've had a similar experience recently. Shopping for a set of the 195-55-14 T1Rs, none of my usual buying spots had them available, and most told me that I'd be waiting at least a month.
At the recommendation of another enthusiast, I finally got around to checking with onlinetires.com, who were able to source a set for me within about four days.

I chose the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals in 215/45/17 and still love them after 12k miles and a few auto x runs. no squirmy sidewalls, plenty of traction, quiet and kick ass on the auto x . no issues to complain about, good price.

We have some pictures of the 1.2 on the miata in our wheel and tire picture gallery here:
http://www.good-win-racing.com/mazda...er=asc&star t=0
Downsides of more aggressive offsets like 30mm include the fact that tires pushed further out mean potentially more road grit is sprinkled down the side of your miata as you drive. I eventually had to repaint the area behind my front wheels on...

Summer tire: Falken Azenis RT- 615.
Winter Tire: Blizzack Ws-60.
All season: bad idea in a Miata.

Both sets of tires I own for the Miata are summer tires, my daily driving tires are 195/55-14 Dunlop SP8000's, and my other ones are 15" Azenis. I've gone as low as 20-25°F in the past, but besides the tires, other things on my 20 year old Miata start to protest, so I try and keep it to 30°F or above.

A lot will depend on the size wheels it has. If it's really a base, it could have 14" wheels, for which tire selection is somewhat limited. The 15" and 16" wheels have a lot wider choice. If you would go here:
http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html
and figure out which wheel is actually on the car, it would help us make suggestions.

Miatas are very sensitive to tire balance. Get it done, and ask them to use the most sensitive setting on the machine.

I also have Falken 912's and I love them. I used to have 185-60-14 Bridgestones up front and 195-60-14 Uniroyals on back. The Bridgestones gave much better grip over the crappy Uniroyals, but the Uniroyals made for a lot of fun on a wet surface. I had so much fun slipping and sliding with those Uniroyals.
Now with the Falkens I would have to push it harder to slip and slide so I don't anymore....

Tire Rack has a customer for life
I bought a set of TRMotorsports C1M's and tires from Tire Rack back in June. I broke a center cap earlier this week and called them to order a replacement. I was expecting and willing to pay for the cap, instead they sent me a new one and a spare at now charge.
How's that for service after the ...

Wheel offsets of 48mm to 50mm...are a medium change from stock offset of 55mm. The only problem with the wheels...are the weight.
Do you go back to your 17" wheels after winter ?

With an actual experience that is incongruous with your thread title, don't you think it might be a good idea to put, say, quotation marks around "disapoint" or maybe put a in there? Your title is very misleading and, IMHO, does a disservice to a Miata.net sponsor.
