Hello ntorch and this is certainly personal preference but consider the following:
Very few Miata's are purchased with this configuration. This may hurt you when it comes time to resell. I would not buy one without it.

Why would you need your brights and fog lights on at the same time? If it is foggy then your high beams will be reflected back and blind you. I have 18 years of living and driving in
Nova Scotia to back me up on this point. Please don't be one of those idiots who drives around with his fog lights on all of the time just to look cool.

You'll have to try it out yourself to see if you fit, but if you want an automatic then the
3rd generation is definitely the way to go. It's probably also much better for a commute that long. Just make sure you can live with a relatively noisy car.
