Thanks for posting that, Spymaster. Very interesting reading. I think I'll stick blanket in the top well and see what happens. My feeling is that a lot of the noise is coming from the rear tires, but I'll just live with it.

The one thing I like best about my NC is... the fact that I can now chase down and catch Spec Miatas that I used to have trouble staying with in my NB.

Glad you are back in the saddle. Just a thought, can you after the dealership owner or owners directly for fraud? You can probably do it, subject to the limitaions of the law.

Break in period
Published (2009-11-24 20:47:00)
All my new car break in periods involved a long stretch of interstate and a long, slow accelleration then a long, slow decelleration repeated many times. Always dropped the first oil with all the 'machining bits' at around 800 miles. Never had an oil related problem. Might be a good idea to place a strong magnet near the drain plug so the tiny slivers can get flushed out. Remove the magnet, drop the drain plug, and change the oil and...

you will get tons of answer on this one. GAP (generally accepted principle) within those who care about engine protection: no pushing before 1000km oil change at 1000km genitally push it but no sustain high RPM and don't pass 5000 RPM before 5000km second oil change at 5000km (prefer synthetic) push all you want

Used Redline MTL/MT90 for years in different vehicles. Car-maker specialty formulations have now surpassed it. Motorcraft syn is much superior to MT90 in my NC 6MT; Chrysler 3500 spec gives far better performance than MTL in the NV5600 6MT in my Dodge truck; Toyota's MT spec is better in my wife's FJ. I won't assume that either Redline product matches or surpasses other fluids anymore; until a ...

D. None of the above. The MTL is too light (75w80). The 75w90NS is more meant for rear-ends. The MT-90 is what you'd want to use. It's specifically made for manual transmissions spec'ing a 75w90 fluid.

When I bought my first filter I bought a tool, not sure exactly what to call it, “filter socket” maybe. It snaps on a ratchet like any other socket and it fits snugly around the bottom of the filter. It’s much better than the old school filter wrench I have; the kind with a metal band that tightens around the filter.

Mine's like that too. Rev the nuts off it and you still get nothing. I like how I can launch from a stop light at 5K and redline each shift and the cop next to me does nothing because I'm still not speeding. I think Mazda engineers were a little ambitious when they chose a Rascal scooter for an acceleration benchmark.

I don't think you're nuts. Tinkering with cars is fun! New cars just don't have that flexibility any longer (unless it's mostly cosmetic due to the computers). Although you can modify them with expensive upgrades, I don't think that's what you're after. Plus I always found it a challenge to restore older cars rather than just maintain a new one. It's actually fun searching out what might ...

Wow! Those are great photos and super nice cars. It seems Thailand has access to some nice aftermarket accessories I haven't seen here. Is there a single Miata in that group not modified in any way? The orange one is over the top!

I actually thought they were pretty common. I have saddle leather in mine, but personally I think the newer leather tones are a wee bit easier on the eyes. Or maybe it's the orange of the centre console that gets to me?
