The build I'm about to embark upon is my first post-1994 build and therefore the first that does not have the circut already in place. I figured I would just use a new Miata thermo switch since they seemed to work fine on the last three cars even on the track and only cost $24 from AutoZone (one bonus point). From that point I'll just wire it to a new relay. The relay sockets can be pulled from any Ford in a yard and then easily...

Miata Engine Harness Removal
Published (2009-11-10 19:37:00)
Nope. I pulled mine completely out. There's a big blue connector where the engine harness branches off that runs some wiring for stuff to the fuse box, fans, and some other stuff. I retained the body side of that and tapped into it for a few thinngs. I think it's x16 connector but I can't remember off hand. Frank

Its time to wire the alternator. I need to know what function the two white wires that go into the Miata's Alternator serve. I know the one red wire that comes out of the Ls1's Alternator requires a 12v power source with 500ohm resistor (correct me if I'm wrong.) Thanks in advance for the help

Nice!, while you are at it, I'd brace the rack mounts as well if you are planning radical surgery. That jig is v nice as it is though. When doing your mods cut as much as you think you need then a bit more as well. mine is a "Martin" copy deduced from internet pictures, but I could really have made the mods much more radical without compromising strength too much (IMHO) and the extra clearance ...

I was gonna say, from what I have seen, yours is SOLID. Just a tad over 2700 pounds isn't bad.

There is no reason you should foul sensors earlier if your tune is correct. You're just masking the problem by replacing the O2s. You need to find out why they're fouling. Most likely you're running way rich. That can be fixed with a good tune.

What dimensions are you looking for? The shaft length between the two CV joints?

Hey Tony,
According to the wiring diagram, there are connections to the main fuse block and to the SAS unit in the center of the dash. I don't see any going to the ECU.

I ignored them and used the Miata fuel injection relay. It seems to work just fine.

Why wouldn't you be able - if you meet EPA regs and can get it insured, why not? Question is which EPA regs - for the year of your Miata or for the year of the LS1 engine? With an NA, the perform a tailpipe test, so should be no problem with a test as long as you have the cat converter.
Insurance is a different issue - there's a thread or two about that.

Did you notice if the conversion was "throttle by wire" (electronic) or the older scheme of accelerator pedal cable to throttle body and a TPS sensor?
The cable scheme can require a cable cam profile change, and the full electronic throttle control ECU programming changes. Depending on the mechanical linkage to the accelerator pedal, things can be simple or complex to change.
Perhaps ...

Well done on your progress so far , many would have given up by now ! The wiring and electronic gismos on modern engines aren't for the faint hearted DIY car biulders !
One reason why I've gone with a standard HEI distributor , a single 12 volt wire to it and the engine will run !
Still behind on my build but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now , should see the thing running ...

Hmmm, first time I've seen a fabricated rear cover/mount. Looks REALLY good. The welds aren't too shabby either . Care to share the tubing specs?? Or your engine choice??
