Although, thinking about it, if you want to get into Standard, Limited is great. You get: a) Experience analyzing cards b) Play experience c) To walk away with more Standard cards to build your Standard deck. Just starting (like two weeks in starting) I found FNM rare drafting helped me build up my collection. After that, maybe a month or so after I thought of that, I started trying to draft to actually win something. The drafts I go to...

If you mean Standard (you probably do), Standard is currently in transition to a new rotation schedule. Standard will be the two latest blocks sets plus the yearly core set. My friend today (the one in my signature) was discussing his black/green deck. I said he needs to add Doomgape because, if nothing else, he'll get 10 life out of it. I said he would need to sacrifice a creature to it. He says "I've got Shambling Shell s, so I can sacrifice it to feed Doomgape and put a +1/+1 counter on one of my creatures." I said..."umm, no." He said, "Oh, well, I still...

There isn't really such a thing as a Top Tier deck in Magic itself, you need to specify a format, the major ones being Vintage, Legacy, Extended and Standard. You first need to choose a format to play. Vintage has a lot of restricted cards(1-per deck) and a few banned cards(0-per deck), but other than them allows you to play any card printed otherwise. Legacy has no restricted cards and some ...

I'm currently at 1567, 225 Matches, 52 Events. I don't play tier one decks either. I like building random jank and having fun with it. Then when I DO do well at something, I just do horrible sometime in the near future. I also tend to make play mistakes that I probably shouldn't make, but hey, whatever. I have fun. EDH FTW!...

I actually really like those boxes for my unsleeved decks. As long as they're not rattling around somewhere horrible, they're good and sturdy. If I'm going to the effort of sleeving up a deck, I usually go the extra mile and buy a nice metal or sturdy plastic deckbox. The metal ones aren't too bulky, but the really nice plastic/leather ones are. Also, this is probably the wrong forum for ...

I have no problem with the new planeswalker cards. I do think though that recent flavor of sets has sucked balls. Lorwyn had great flavor, but Shards of Alara, the only flavor I can think of is it's a crappy mixture/ripoff of Invasion and Ravnica and none of the legends have any personality of cards like Gerrard Capashen . Zendikar has the worst flavor for a magic set i have ever seen....

I would call him out on it. People who get annoyed about missing "may" triggers are pretty low. Yeah it's FNM, but it's just "practice mode" for bigger stuff; learn how to play.

UB anything-with-Yawmoth's-Will. There's no point to running creatures, as a complete unrestricted deck will always win on turn 1, every single game. The only cards you should be remotely scared of are Force of Will and Mindbreak Trap , and there's win buttons against those. Edit: here's a random list, completely off the top of my head: Deck 4 Black Lotus...

Some of it is to make the flavor make sense (ie how do you Remove Darksteel Colossus' Soul when it doesn't have one?) Some is to remove non-generic flavor from the cards (ie Counsel of the Soratami is a Kamigawa specific thing.) Some is to remove real world things, Wrath of God is a great example of that.

Gee you must be a hit with your local playgroup. My only real OCD is that I hate reprints, so I go out of my way to get the original River Boa or Terminate s. I also like only one picture on each basic land.

My guess would be don't loan him cards anymore, at least not for a while. I mean unless the cards were signed, it's very difficult to prove that any two stillmoon cavaliers were in fact yours, since they're identical. If you just don't loan him cards for a while, and then the cards actually do turn up in your posession, then you haven't really lost anything,

Pen and paper is hard to beat. A sheet of loose leaf can be 10 or so games of normal lifechange magic (if hes gaining a million, or you only do damage 1 point at a time, it'll be less). It also allows for tracking of any other informtion. Meddling mages, thoughtseize reveals, etc. ...
