It comes down to a war of attrition through resources. Unlike the private sector the government technically has unlimited resources. even though the economical impact of that is disasterous. the private sector has to operate in the black. the government has been bleeding red ink for years and it isn't going to stop any time soon. the private sector can't compete against and entity that does not have the financial restrictions that it...

Quote: "In many areas of American commerce, private and government programs comfortably co-exist. FHA insured loans and non-FHA loans, Social Security and private pensions, public and private universities--all have long thrived side by side. Each side of the divide has strengths and weaknesses, but in every case the public sector is providing something the private sector cannot: A backup that's there if and when you need it; a...

No, you have not shown a single thing! The murder rate jumps all over the place no matter how many executions are performed with specific trends in specific Periods that do not show any influence by the death penalty whatsoever and certainly not how you wish it was. I have already enumerated those in my previous post. You bring up the drop in murder in Texas after 1991 when the same phenomenon happened taken over the ENTIRE United States AT...

Much like the question If the sun shined upon this planet, and nothing was here to feel it, did it shine? The idea that the observation validates, or that the lack of observation invalidates a law of physics, is backwards. The observer is validated by the <insert law of physics here> he/she/it observes. For example. The moon. The moon is a hunk of space rock that has no sentient life on it. Yet it is there. It exists. The same is...

*Intro not related to thread* It's been a long time since I have been here, but I am getting back into Magic and so decided to get back to the forums I left behind. I thought what better topic to discuss then something related to religion. *On to the topic* I recently stumbled across this intriguing article on Theistic Evolution (TE) here: http://www.infidels.org/library/mode......

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/he...cy/07plan.h tml One of the most pivotal and controversial aspects of the upcoming debate over healthcare reform in the United States is the idea of a "public option," or public insurance plan. This would set up a Medicare-like insurance program run by the federal government that citizens could choose to buy into as an alternative to private insurance. ...

Here you will find an article about Jammie Thomas-Rasset, who used Kazaa: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/riaa-kaz...news-4192.h tml In short, the court wanted to fine this person about $2 mill for 24 song infringements and four companies. This means $80,000 per 'stolen' song. I personally think that this is utterly atrocious. The amount asked was exceedingly incredulous. Granted, file-...

Is what it means to find "true love" or soul mates an overrated fantasy or is it real and can happen to anyone? I often ask myself this question.

I'd like to propose a rather open- ended discussion on the topic rather more broad than the title I placed above. What I''d like to debate really is the justice system and punishment as a whole. More specifically, what justification does a society have to imprison or punish: in other words, what defines law; divinity, social contract theory? I'd also like to touch upon what are the inherent ...

I do not think children should be taught religion (ever). if it were my call i would say it is ok to introduce children at age where they can reason/think critically to multiple religions and let them choose which one they want to follow. and for religion with younger children (babies toddlers , anyone under 14) if they ask about it explain them it but dont go and tell them that "you're going to ...

A PRODUCT with VALUE exists. I own this PRODUCT. You want this PRODUCT from me. You decide to ask me to give this PRODUCT to you. I decline to give this PRODUCT to you, saying that I want to keep it. In response to that, you offer me MONEY in exchange for the product, asserting that MONEY has a REPRESENTATIVE VALUE equivalent to the VALUE of my PRODUCT. Therefore, you continue, if I ...

do you think that one political party is quicker to judge then another political party? For instance if you are Democratic, do you think Republicans are quick to judge your views before they hear the entire story? And Republicans do you think Democrats are quick to judge you before your story is told entirely?

Do you think that the moral climate of America has improved or declined over the past 50 years? Is our morality actually evolving, or is it "devolving?" Or is the reality a good deal muddier than that? Some arguments for a better moral climate: Civil-rights movements have made absolutely tremendous strides over the past several decades. Fifty years ago, the election of Barack Obama ...

Every now and then things do go right in the system, which gives me hope that not everything is dead in this country. Two important cases had their verdicts read today. 1. maddoff will recieve 161 years in prison for his crimes. His lawyers asked the judge for lenancy but were denied. 2. The Fire fighters won their court battle and will now get the promotions that they earned. It ...
