I'm about to install SP3 on my new notebook computer running Windows XP SP2. I've read everything I can about what to do before installing it, and I think I'm ready to go, except for this: One of the pre-installation steps is to log on as administrator. I'm the sole user and administrator, and for now at least the computer boots without my having to log on at all. Does that mean I'm ...

I get: Could not start the Automatic Update Service on local computer. I have the same problem that Jessica asks about. I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall XP Professional 2002. I was finally able to update to SP1, but cannot successfully install xp2. I can download it, and it appears to install, but then I get the message that it failed to install. There is an Error 0x80070017. I did try suggestions listed in this posting, e.g., I ran ...

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2008 on a clean Windows Server 2008 Standard machine. The SQL Server 2008 installation starts by installing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Windows Update then requested I install "Hotfix for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 KB953595", which I did. The Windows Update "Update History" states that the Hotfix was installed Successfully. However, the SQL Server ...

[Crossposted to WU newsgroup] Not much else I can suggest other than the following. If you can reach US/CA-based toll free numbers using your mobile or Skype, call 1-800-936-5700 and pretend that you're in the US or CA. Identify your SQL Server version/build in the chart under "Known issues with this security update" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941203 and check the ...

After updatig my laptops ( WIN XP SP2) wih SP3 I now do not have access the internet. Access is constrained when using a browser (IE 7.0.5730.11) or by other net apps via LAN or WIFI connection, but I can access via my WWAN modem. I use Symantec for firewall and antivirus protection, both were running at install time. Attempts to restore to a previous level have failed. Any ...

Hello, My windows update is unable to "update important files and services while the system is using them" (loosely translated from Norwegian). No matter how many times I restart my computer, I always get the same message, hence my version of Windows Vista has been unable to update itself for a few weeks, which can't possibly be healthy. Is there any way to fix this, or at least to ...
