At some point, it's just not worth the hassle (all this, for a uber-slow P2 350 that barely runs WinME?) I'd sooner check local classifieds, craigslist, computer recycling places and what not. You can usually find basic P4's (2.x GHz) for under $100 (I've seen plenty of them being donated/free before). It would be a massive upgrade in every possible way, and...

You need to find exactly the same drive. That might prove the hardest part of your recovery (swapping boards is very easy, at least those I've done) .

I would of assumed he was suggesting the same budget as last time. Im sure he wants more RAM so 12GB would be more suitable than 6GB (Corsair Dominator, maybe) definitely a 5870 or maybe a 5870X2 when it comes out

I see, but an init of 17 seconds is a long time and I never have seen that on any of the Gigabyte motherboards with just a SATA drive. It's interesting to know that there is a new ACHI BIOS out there, strange part is indeed that Gigabyte didn't implement it in their BIOS updates.

Linksys WRT310N is my recommendation. Combined with a matching Linksys wireless N adapter. USB and PCI offer similar performance.

When it comes to the burner discussion, can you see yourself needing a blu-ray burner in the next 1 year? If you can wait to burn BD, since DVD is still quite large, you can also wait for the price to come down even more. If you just need a player, get that and worry about the burner in the future when it will likely be cheaper than the player you buy....
