Schatzy, have you seen the new retrofit kit? http://www.motoringfile.com/wp-conte...578087307c.pdf Looks like it's avoiding a straight-up replacement, which brings the cost of parts down to a measly ~$700. The PDF notes estimated install time should be under 3 hours, so the total price is still probably over $1000?

I did the wiring myself, but it was based off the instructions that came with it... Use the X9002 connector, and used slots 18 and 17.... I think maybe it's just a fuse that is hot for some time period after the key is removed... Like the speedo lights come on when you open the door, so does the garmin... I guess its fine. Anyone else know a better way?

fwiw, I have my Nuvi tapped into Fuse 32. Mainly out of convenience as I already had an add-a-fuse there for my auto sport button mod, so I just spliced into that. So my Nuvi comes on and turns off when I start and turn off the car.

Do you have a 1st gen MINI? I ask because with a 2nd gen MINI, you wouldn't want the logo on all the time or you wouldn't be able to operate the stereo (you posted in the 2nd gen forum). But if you really wanted a logo all the time, think outside the box and get a vinyl sticker with a logo . As for the safety notice, if you have a 1st gen MINI, the newer versions of software ...

Did you do the electrical wiring yourself? It sounds like it is tapped into a fuse that stays on after the key is removed. Some of those stay on for a little while then turn off, others I guess will stay on indefinitely. We'll need some more info on your wiring to help.

You don't want to use the 6x9 speaker signals after the HIFI amp because they have a high-pass filter and don't get much below 100 Hz. Go for the X9331 connector. The best way to do it is to spend the money on the X9331 connector parts and make a pass-through connector. It will take awhile to get the parts, though. Not going to get it done this week.

I believe the Moterola H500 is a Bluetooth headset not a telephone. You can link your Bluetooth phone to either the MINI or the headset, or maybe both at the same time, but I don't know what the MINI and the headset would have to share.
