I know there's already a thread about shifting techniques and it's great. But I was wondering what people's technique were for an aftermarket clutch and flywheel. Specifically aftermarket clutches that bite harder and flywheels that are lighter then stock. I know for for most aftermarket clutch/flywheels, it's not as easy to start off in 1st gear. In my experience, the biting point is very slim precise, too little gas and...

Even on poor fuel, it doesnt do you any good. You mean aviation gas? Yeah, that would be fine as long as it is NOT leaded, if it is you'll destroy most of your emission system which is $$$$. Why is it you want to run higher octane? Where are you located?

Time and Parts to replace Shift...

I asked for the parts back, but my guess is that they get water in at the other end where they connect to the control rods - I know its up high, but I suspect slushy gloppy stuff can still get splashed up there. From What I have gathered, the cable design has been changed to include a rubber accordion boot - the early cars did not have that. Also, I called back and my regular service guy told be the parts were $115, not $150, so the parts are...

Glad to see you got things partially worked out. If the clutch was defective, which is definately a possibility as someone else stated with their history of defective products, I would seek a refund or somekind or reimbursement. If it was on your mechanic, then I would ask for the labor if the second clutch job to be reimbursed to you. Good luck with your new clutch

Your welcome to come to Atlanta, I know it's a drive but we can do it. But if your planning on doing more mods you'd be better off to wait cause once you add a mod you more than likely will have to retune the car. Otherwise you could risk running too lean, because a custom tune it made for however the car is when you tune it.

Carefully. The good thing about aftermarket clutches they will put up with a lot more abuse so if you ride it out it won't be as much of a big deal. Also a lot of the bite from clutches do come from the pressure plate. I had a Clutchmasters Stage 2 in my last car with a Fidenza lightwieght flywheel, it was fun driving it in traffic or up hill because I had to rev it up more to get into gear. So ...

Honestly 'warranty's' on clutches and LSD's are kind of pointless given the large labor cost of removing the defective goods, as you found out. I had a FX100 on my SVT Focus and it failed within 20k miles. I don't know how CM does warranties but many companies will just give you like for like. Meaning you will get another FX200 in replacement. Personally I will never buy a CM product again after...

My car with similar mods, just from different compaines and with a 15% pulley, made 222 whp with an RMW/Newman cam and a retune. I dont know how those cams profile compare with the one in my car, but I'd say more than likely you could expect anywhere from from 215 to 220 whp. Also my car doesnt have the JCW head, but I dont believe it would make that much more of a difference.

Hey Dave take a look at this link http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...& hg=25&fg=05 seems odd to me that the shifter box, under shift handle got water in it. It's a sealed box, protected by the heat shield and getting water up there without also getting it to the bottom of the doors seems unlikely to me. The price on the parts may be high, but the labor sounds about right.

i remember reading a very detailed write up on fuel aditives, it may of been here on NAM. but i know that it said they were a waste of time with no gains at all and in some cases it was a loss in power. sorry but i could not find the info first hand. do not waste your money.
