9 here, with 'freezing fog'. My favorite! Y'all are invited to Baconfest 2010 (New Year's Day, 2 - 6 pm, or when the bacon runs out). If anyone is out driving around on New Year's Day. I find most people who come over that day are coming from a radius of a mile or less.

Well, the Siberian Express is due in later tonight. They're talking 40 mph wind gusts and up to about a foot of snow. So far, it's cold, but relatively tame. Bailed (Bakered?) on an afternoon gathering with friends over in Fredonia b/c of the forecast--hated to do it but sometimes it's better safe than sorry. And the way people drive these days... I think Jill would prefer the vacuum to the Wii, but she did prove her prowess at...

I recently subscribed to a mag called Overland Journal. There are a few issues on line and one from summer 2008 I think it is has an article about James Bay Road. http://www.overlandjournal.com/downl...008_summer.pdf I haven't read it yet as it's summer oriented but there isn't a lot of James Bay write up in the world. d

Kim , I didn't know you had friends in Freedonia... Hail, Hail, Freedonia! by Roland Watson That Groucho Marx was anarchic in the comedy domain is in no doubt, but whether he was in the political domain is another matter. The FBI tried to get him on being a Communist and it would seem that his leanings were definitely towards the left. But one of the Marx Brothers' films "Duck Soup" leaves us in no doubt about the...

Ok, you had me at "Duck Soup"! Of course Groucho had a left-leaning political preference, but it was his little-known brother Karl who carried the political banner. You know, Duck Soup was a gem! I think it really pulled-together the essence of the Marx Brothers' creativity and genius into one hell of a film. Credit goes to Paramount Studios for giving free reign of the creative control to the writers and actors. I...

Found conditions as good as the ice dragon last night for a couple of hours of fun. 24+ inches of light fluffy snow, and huge drifts above the car door handles this morning. What sort of underground facilities are there by the St Lawrence ?

Hi Ross, how are things going this summer? I'm game for a trip more to the west in 2010, and have time for long run. But as usual, I'll go just about anywhere -- as long as the point is to once again prove our little MINIs are quite capable of doing the same, even in the dead of winter! By the way, I was pleasantly shocked to discover yesterday that ArcticMINI now has 38 (edit- make ...

The two choices are described on ArcticMINI.com's potential trips area. NW Ontario Ice Roads : Description on ArcticMINI.com - it's a looong trip along the Trans-Can to the ice roads, but at least it doesn't take a train to get there. Includes northernmost highway in Ontario, then 250 miles (each way) of ice roads to Oji-Cree villages. 6 nights to go and return along the north shores of...
