go on then, send me an injector and we'l find out the truth! (In all fairness I have not a clue) but surely single stage injectors are knocking on a bit now?

heater not very warm

If the level is ok - check it's condition. If it's really cloudy or rusty it could do with a change and flush. My heater was not as hot as it could be either, I flushed the matrix out the other day and it was full of orange sludge. The whole system will be drained and flushed now - well, as soon as it stops chucking it down. That crud will be EVERYWHERE...

Rover 200 sd alternator replacement

I believe the servo pump usually comes with the replacement alternator. I would have thought it would also be easier to swap over without having to remove the servo pump form the alternator.

my car dont have the 4700 limiter, in fact i had a 'special' map on mine where there was fuel in it if the car was capable of getting up to the region of 8k rpm. in actual usuage i think the limiter was about 5400 or well into the solid red on the dial. in real world usage the only reason you would need to go above 4K rpm is if you are doing a top speed run or something, at around 4500 i think that equates to around 120-130mph on the...

Is this the one in the pic you bought off me? wasnt that bad when you bought it was it earlier this year, maybe the odd judder upto junctions as i remember due ti sdi's ? Funny though i had exactly the same problem with the blue 5 door zr you asked me about a few weeks ago... i had the injectors out twice to clean and sold it with the stock injectors in, but still ran terrible for around 2 mins from cold..then fine all day? How is the mean...

I hate that stupid torque limiter! I would like rid of it in second i think. The torque difference seems very noticable going from 2nd to 3rd..

Have you studied brake specific fuel consumption graphs at all, such as this one: This is the reason why I think it could be quite tricky to achieve good power at high rpm, in that the underlying combusion characteristics of a TDI favour the most efficient burn of fuel at around 2000rpm, when the turbo has barely got going, i.e. a bigger turbo won't give massive gains higher up the rev range, as the engine simply won't be effiicient...

Gearbox choice and clutch options

Depends what make they are and if they are new or remaufactured items. I got a new 3 part clutch from my local motor factors for £70, so bargains are out there.

Not unless the decat isn't sealed properly.
If it isn't sealed then the vents could draw it in.

Have you cleaned though your injectors? The L-series has a cold-engine timing retard calibration that will mask imbalance problems in the injectors, but once the engine is hot, then the timing is advanced to the point that cylinder - to - cylinder variation in combustion will be more noticeable.
As a starting point, I would run a proprietry injector cleaner through a tank of fuel, then ...

I expect someone would be able to make an adapter plate but surely you would be better off sticking in a more juicey VW lump?? Least all the wiring and hopefully mounting points would be the same.
I'm currently in the process of sticking a Rover V8 in my 944 and it's a long old slog to get it done and I was able to find an engine to gearbox adatptor kit for that including flywheel. Everything...

yes that is right... dont forget that the L has got 3K less rpm than the K, and that the torque is much earlier in the rev range so short shifting is actually a benefit.
also bear in mind that 1st adn 2nd have a torque limiter, so the engine is not free to do what it wants as it were until you hit 3rd... so really you want to make sure that your change from 2nd makes use of the peak torque ...

Nice project, you should have a chat with ETV who's well on the way of getting an intercooled L series into a maesto van.
Not quite the same conversion but same style

Not sure about the sensor I'm afraid but is the battery definitly alright? How long will it turn the car over for before it's dead? Mine would turn the car over 3 or 4 times in the cold and was then pretty much dead. Just didn't quite have enough ooommph to get the car going when cold but fine the rest of the time. If it's still on it's first battery then it's getting close I would have thought.

Pistons could be a challenge
and then you would need a fully mappable ECU and then work out what, when and how much etc.
Effect on cooling system etc etc
We have already seen Solar temps on a 2.0 L series and brought that back into reasonable levels before the block melted!

I was out the other night very dark, had a car tailing me for a few miles on single carriageway. Across a falrly tight roundabout and there's a uphill two lane bit for about 3/4's a mile. Car behind decides he's going past very confident its going to be easy. I'm in a too high gear 4th at 35 odd and floor it as I see him pull out, car struggles past, gets in front then i see its a scooby doo. lol...
