The notification is for the Windows XP SP3 only and alrady downloaded. When I clicked the notification, there are two options: Express and Custom installation. What steps I should take to get rid of it? "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: > Uncheck the update and hide it. When I go to Windows Update, it's telling me that I need to start services that are already started (BITS, Automatic Updates, and Event Log). I've tried restarting my PC, and it hasn't solved the problem.

I have the same problem that Jessica asks about. I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall XP Professional 2002. I was finally able to update to SP1, but cannot successfully install xp2. I can download it, and it appears to install, but then I get the message that it failed to install. There is an Error 0x80070017. I did try suggestions listed in this posting, e.g., I ran Chkdsk/f...

I am having the same problem trying to fix the automatic updates. It is not allowing me to start the service and I'v tried all the suggestion that were provided as well as the resources to discover alternative solutions to the problem of not being able to start the Automatic Updates services. Even after attempting to start the BIT service and the Event Log, the Automatic updates will not...

[Crossposted to WU newsgroup] Not much else I can suggest other than the following. If you can reach US/CA-based toll free numbers using your mobile or Skype, call 1-800-936-5700 and pretend that you're in the US or CA. Identify your SQL Server version/build in the chart under "Known issues with this security update" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941203 and check the...

I have tried many times to install this high priority update for the Microsoft Office Power Point viewer 2003. Each time, it said that the "Initializing" was done but then the "Installation" failed. I have reinstalled the Power Point Viewer and disabled McAfee and popups. I have Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6. Can anyone tell me why I cannot install this update?
