Glow Plug Questions
Published (2009-11-03 18:48:00)
Thanks Guys, I appreciate your getting back to me. I'll definitely meter out the GP's to find the bad one(s) and use the torque wrench method to save snapping one off if possible. I'm amazed that there isn't an antisieze MB uses ! I realize that it gets pretty hot, but there are some amazing nickel and copper based compounds out there - I'm going to look into that a bit more. I use N5000 and N3000 made by Locktite...

Skip the Royal Purple, as it isn't Mercedes approved. Only transmission fluid to Mercedes spec 236.14

Glow Plug Questions
Published (2009-11-03 17:56:00)
Check out www.peachparts.com web forum. There is a DIY on the glow plug procedure on there. Its a good step by step. -I didn't use any penetrant when replacing my plugs. Just lots of care, time and skin off my knuckles taking them out. -I would say that its worth it to pull all the plugs, replace them, and use the proper reaming tool to clean out the area where the plugs sit. -I couldn't recommend any specific brands of glow plugs....

Which Synthetic motor oil should...
Published (2009-11-03 22:20:00)
Now I have to decide what motor oil to be used on this Diesel: Which one: (Both approved by MB) Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40*1 (Diesel only) or Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-30*1 (Diesel only) or Royal Purple - which I keep hearing from other people that this is a excellent Syn-oil. Any more opinions??? And - where to purchase oil filters and air filters??? Any suggestions on Transmission oil (synthetic)??? Thank you very much.

You can use the M1 ESP FM 5w40 or Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 (can be had from Dodge/Jeep dealerships). AVlube (online) carries both oils, and I've read that both oils are now available at Pep Boys for $7/qt

Get your multimeter out and follow the tutorial on dieselgiant.com for testing the W123 GP's and relay. Our relay is diff but teh principals are the same. Now you'll at least know if it is a GP (and which one) or the relay. The code will tell you the same info if its good enough to read MB specific codes. P1_365, 7 & 9 references GP's 1 or 2, 3 or 4 and 5 or 6 respectively. Beru's came...

Yes, they automatically perform active regeneration when DPF restriction is high. Fuel economy suffers significantly because of this. The V6 3.0L engine gets similar fuel economy to the previous generation inline-6 3.2L engine due to the 7-speed transmission, smaller engine displacement and piezo injectors.

Assuming that it will start.....fire it up and crack the fuel lines at the IP ~1/8 turn, one at a time, then retighten. Idle should deterioate if that cyl is firing. If no change, you found the bad one(s).

You knocked a vaccum line off while loosening or removing the oil filter. VERY common. Check that area carefully.
