I did this on my previous 95 M3 and after a while the smell really got to me. It was not a DD, maybe 5k on the street a year, but still, even at traffic lights or idling anywhere it stunk.
Can you even do this "legally" on a 2003 car? For a 95, which is OBDI, it was just a
visual inspection. Just a thought.

Honestly you should have had the car fixed before modding it.
One step to take is to have a look at the AFR while on a dyno and see where it is at when it
stumbles. Personally I think it could be the knock sensors pulling timing... One way to make sure is to have all the adaptaitons reset and run it on 100 octane, just a few gallons and see of the problem persists. ...

I think this question is a toss up,
some people say it does have more
strain on the drivetrain, but the way i think of it, in lower modes, the
car stays on the clutch longer so shifts are smoother therefore wearing out
your clutch faster.
