Ditto on the black ink cartridges . Especially when you have 4 blacks at $230.00 apiece! Paul, Love that black and white image. On another note I also tried downloading the 425mb tiff (Carina Nebula Pano) and Safari could not handle it,crashed twice. Mac Pro 10.5 with 10mb ram. Downloaded for 45 minutes before shutting down, any suggestions? This post has been edited by Dan Berg : Jan 1 2010, 03:02 PM

Aaron Excellent post - great info. The grain direction change on larger sheets would explain part of the issue. The issue doesn't seem effected by seasonal humidity. Personally think is a combination of variables: printer sample variation, ink load/print, paper flatness out of box (agree, Harman packaging sucks) - and Gremlins ;< Yeah, the 3800 is a love-hate situation. Lot to love, not much to dislike, but the few issues...

QUOTE (NLund @ Jan 1 2010, 02:16 PM) Not a comment regarding reselling... Just adding my 2 cents that I enjoy looking at images of space, so far I have just been using HubbleSite, but have found some great stuff there including a 35 mb jpg of the Eagle Nebula and a 200 mb jpg of the Carina Nebula. I WISH I had a nice printer. So, with the copyright information they have, it would be ok to send one of these images to an online...

QUOTE (Xanthor @ Dec 31 2009, 10:18 PM) I have a similar problem. Photoshop says the device is offline and may be unavailable. It responds and prints but nothing appears in the print preview window properly. Im curious - do you have any other HP junk installed? All I have installed is the HP driver and printer utility. Have you tried a complete uninstall, and by that I mean delete EVERYTHING HP, including all folders, all...

Thanks Aaron, Ok, I added 2 inches to the overall length of the IGFS so were now at 17x27 I then reversed rolled it on a roll of Kraft paper, this flattened it pretty good, but the ends needed a little extra which I did carefully by hand. I then set the paper on a piece of foam core back side up and sprayed a fine mist of water about 4 ft above the paper and spread it out as you instructed, it took a lot more water to get it even than I would...

QUOTE (Fastfocus @ Dec 23 2009, 03:03 AM) Make sure you have maximum detail, and more passes turned off (unchecked)! If that's already done, than I would be clueless. I had problems printing on Ilford Gold Fiber Silk, which is almost exactly the same, and as soon as I turned those 2 check marks off, perfect prints every time. Hope that it works. Cheers GG Thanks Gary. I'll give that a try later today. Will...

In addition, many many stunning files of extraordinary quality can be found here of the surface of Mars- http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/katalogos.php?page=1 Some of these are of a quality difficult to get traditionally, and are wonderful to print. You will need the jpeg2000 plugin, and some free time on your hands. There are many to pick through not worth the time, but the occasional amazing finds are extraordinary. I've used some of...

QUOTE (feppe @ Jan 1 2010, 01:19 PM) AFAICT yes. The print lab might refuse to print them thinking they are not your work, though. In that case just show them the Creative Commons license which should solve things. I've printed some of these myself in the past, and they are absolutely stunning! Me too. It is a horrible thing to do to your black ink cartridge.

QUOTE (Conner999 @ Jan 1 2010, 06:04 AM) I only referenced GFS in my above post, but (the more delicate) FB AL was even worse. Smaller GFS or FB AL (awesome paper for B&W) no worries. I think the larger-width sheets simply have more latitude to distort when under ink. From what I've seen it does seem to vary by printer copy + and printing circumstance. Like any mechanical device working with tight tolerances, it...

this is a tough one. Haven't heard about this issue before. My first instinct when the driver starts acting up is to reinstall it. Next thing I normally try is to delete the Photoshop preferences file (may be corrupted) and reset the preferences. Does the HP Printer Utility see the printer OK? can you see ink levels for example? If you can't, even intermittently, that can indicate a connection problem. Last, how is your printer...

QUOTE (smthopr @ Jan 2 2010, 07:07 PM) I have an Epson 3800 printer and I'm looking for some paper to print business cards on. Ideally, I'd like gloss on one side and a printable, but not necessarily coated back side. I don't want precut cards as I will use a paper cutter to cut them to size. Color accuracy and permanence are not very important Any suggestions? I tried ...

Thanks for that. Interesting. I think usefulness could be extended with all custom profiles. Using a mix makes the results a bit fuzzy. For example we get a slightly higher DMax on Canson Rag Photographique than Hahnemuhle Photo R. Delta D results do not tell a great deal as the eye readjusts it's contrast readings to match various ranges. This is also affected by local contrast interfaces...

QUOTE (MrPaul @ Jan 2 2010, 01:30 AM) I am trying to decide how to use the Gloss Enhancer 'ink' that comes with the HP Z3200. There is an economy setting that only applies the Gloss Enhancer to the areas of the print that need it the most. The other setting applies it to the whole print. What setting do you use and why? I never use Economy mode in its original quality. With ...

QUOTE (CDL @ Jan 2 2010, 02:07 PM) 3 questions relating to both the Epson 2880 and 3880: 1. In case an ink cartridge is nearing the end, do I have to make sure PRIOR to a print job that there is sufficient ink left to complete the job (i.e. replace the cartridge even if there is some – but insufficient - ink left yet [and if so, how do I know]) or may I change the cartridge DURING ...

Take a look at how you saved the TIFFs in Photoshop. If you used a Pixel Order of "Per Channel" instead of " Interleaved" that could be the problem.

I have spent a lot of time researching this and havent come up with anything. The exact thing happens on my machine: when the Print Preview screen appears the screen flickers and I get several messages from the task bar telling me the display driver has crashed / been restored. A couple of times it has caused the machine to lock up entirely. I have Dell XPS 420. Win7 64bit. Nvidia ...

A solution would be to cut the paper a couple of inches too long, and trim after printing. Not elegant, perhaps, but functional.
